Not all of us have awful kids - or are dreadful parents.

Just like the US I imagine :)

This is the 2nd anti-English question you have posted in 2 days. Have you got a problem with the English?

I note you haven't answered any questions yet - have a go, it can be stress relieving.

The reason the UK is worse than other European countries is because we model ourselves unwittingly on the US due, in part, to the success of US films in dominating the UK market, and influencing our culture. Europeans are more insulated from this due to the language difference.

We have a long way to go before we can match the social problems of the US. Can you enumerate the number of English school children murdered by their fellow pupils and compare this with the same in the US?

Time magazine is just trying to sell more copies by pointing out in an exaggerated way problems outside the US, in an attempt to distract US readers from the economic problems which have built up, and are going to erupt explosively shortly making life difficult for them - unfortunately the rest of the world will suffer in the tail of the recession brought on by poorly regulated US financial services. This will not help our culture in improving parenting.

You've started two questions on this, are you simple?

Half the stuff on the link makes at least some news in the UK. If it happened in America no one would blink an eye as it's that common. I mean, I bet the US don't even bother reporting school shooting as it expected these days. As for gang violence, that's well documented.

I could go on, but it's all well known, isn't it?

EDIT: We can hit back AND clean up, why? Because it's not that out of control. How do I know? I live on what is supposed to be a rough neighbourhood, and see very little of this (perhaps that because of the lack of clever editing). On the other hand, other countries could do with sorting themselves out first, before they open their mouths.

EDIT II : No ANON, you're not the only one who's going to face the facts. As I said I live on a rough 'hood' (just for the yanks) and grew up on an estate where gun crime is bad (I saw my first armed robbery aged 10). But it's not an epidemic (there's more decent people than them, only they make the most noise and sell more papers). Sure there's no go areas, and decent people like you and me, would love for it to go away. What's important is it's stopped asap. But let's get it into perspective.

OLDFART- It's quite sad that's all you've got. It was that easy you needed to enlist the help of the French to actually organise you. The same French that wanted to make you another part of New France, and would have had it not been for British soldiers. How soon we forget.

Could I just say, that I also hate the American bashing Q's as well as the Brit bashing ones. How about getting back on topic? Yes, Britain does have a problem with these scumbags, and yes, it is the crappy parents fault in most cases, but the good people, far out weight the bad ones, as in most countries.

well, they say that whatever the Americans get, the English go through a couple of years later.... so no doubt the American gang & gun culture has done soooooo much good (that's sarcasm by the way, incase u didn't understand that one) for the british kids....

every country has it's stereotypes... just because u see something written down in a magazine, it doesn't mean that all british parents are guilty of not being able to raise their children properly. the media have a 'wonderful' way of over sensationalising things. personally, i like to make my own mind up about things, rather than getting my opinions and beliefs from a magazine.

i'm an english parent, and proud of my son. he does well at school, and is kind, popular and helpful. why should he get labled with such a blatent stereotype ?

Not all parents are this way and we know that statistics can be manipulated to make a point.Bad parents and people are fortunately still a minority who get the majority of the medias attention. And yes this includes the royals

Your country is one of the most useless in the entire world.......you're all addicted to meth aren't ya?

    and

You have no healthcare for poor children.

I would like to defend most of our teenagers and parents - none of my children/grandchildren have been in trouble and do not roam the streets etc. I sincerely believe that one of our problems is the high percentage of children having children - this is a world wide problem and needs to be addressed - As we are a smaller country than say US of course it comes across worse but I have friends in many countries and they also have problems with teenagers and some awful parents but I object to being lumped all together

lots of denials here . am i going to be the only one to accept the facts? my neighbours daughter left home at 16, got pregnant and got a council flat. she is now 19 with 2 children and she is obese. her younger brother spends his time on pc and is pale and thin and never goes out .

across the road from me is a family with 3 small children aged 3, 4 and 7 who play on the road. this is a busy road. no one watches them and they are out in all weathers. 3 miles from here is a council estate where 3 and 4 year olds are out every night till 10 pm while mum is in the house eating take aways, probably. this estate is a no go area for police. kids are running around wrecking cars, throwing eggs etc. even buses will not go there because kids set fire to one. sure there are good parents but there are an awful lot that are bad. kids are obese. they are neglected. they dont go to school. i'll very likely get a million thumbs down now and i dont care. parents should take stock of what they are doing because they are breeding a generation of evil good for nothing fat slobs

Here we go again - because Time has reported what most of us know to be true - lets hit back. Before we hit back at US and any other country - as the initial replies here show - why not clean up our own act. Its true - you dont see this loutish, drunken behaviour in some other countries - because there the family unit has not broken down - people respect each other within families - do things together still, have respect for one another. In looking for the next quid (£) to spend at the bookies, the offie etc, many parents have forgotten their children, they have fogotten discipline within the family they have forgotten to nurture and cherish their children. Britain is a styless, uneducated, society. as a nation we have no pride in ourselves. Our values have all been prostituted for a good time short term fix and as Time has reported you are now seing the results.

just because you read it in a magazine/paper it does not mean it is true

have you ever heard the saying that "people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones"?

don't you have alot of school shootings in America? Is that not an example of a parenting problem?

You know what I find funny. The British are the first to criticise every other country, even themselves. But if someone else criticises them, they whinge and cry and get all defensive. Like the guy who talks about glass houses..hahahaha, perhaps if the brits took some of their own advise. Too funny.
