What do you think the Government should do about the Doctor shortage?

gosh. good question! they SHOULD give incentives to those who go to med school and then become doctors... possibly try to find a better way to help PAY for med school in the first place. i know quite a few people who are pure geniouses and want to go to med school but quite frankly cant afford it.

This is an excellent question. It seems the Presidential candidates are talking about providing universal health care yet they haven't addressed (in their plans) the fact that we don't have enough nurses and doctors in our country. I would like the candidates to entertain the idea of providing scholarships to qualified students who would be willing to go through medical school or nursing school and then give so many years to the service of treating patients who could not afford insurance. We give this type of scholarship for ROTC students who then give their time to the military, but lets support our medical students who would be willing to treat needy patients! I'm giving you a star for this question!!

If there was a way to prevent any butchers and unethical individuals from passing med school and going on to become physicians, it wouldn't be so difficult. Malpractice and malpractice insurance are the reasons for shortage.

Get rid of socialized medicine and allow doctors to compete in a free market environment.

hire george w. bush and he will solve it over night , and sell half the military equipment in the u.s., and then pay for the education needed, but then what was sold would be used against us later, so we better melt down all of it and sell scrap iron instead

Simple economics. If you don't have enough workers, then you're not offering them enough money to do the work. Or you could do like we Americans do and hire the Chinese and Mexicans to do all the work.

Not up to the Government. It is up to hospitals and clinics to make being a doctor attractive enough for people to do it.

Well, they should not get universal health care, that would really screw the doctor population up
