Good Speech Topic for Teens?

I'm in 8th grade and I need to present a 3-4 minute speech. Any kind, narrative, reporting, persuasive, etc., is accepted, and topics are not restricted to 'G.' Any ideas?

What is something that you are passionate about? Maybe a sport you are interested in (it would be an informational speech). Or, you could do the old stand-by of "Later school start times for teens". I'm sure your classmates would love that.

    Sex: Responsibilities, Emotions, and Consequences

    A. Feeling pressured

    1. Friends are doing it.

    2. Person you're with wants to do it.

    B. Feelings involved

    1. Lust and/or Love

    2. Regret and/or Shame

    C. Consequences

    1. STD's

    2. Pregnancy

    3. Reputation

Of course this would need to be something that would express the way teens feel versus what they're told. Abstinence and/or waiting versus social stigma and peer pressure. All the time advocating responsibility.

Why Santa Claus is evil and should be done away with...

    He's a cynical product of coca-cola marketting

"He sees you when you're sleeping" - darn creepy if you ask me

He encourages Children to "be good" purely for material gain once per year.

It makes people unnaturally trusting of jolly fat men, which is completely arbitrary. Same as saying that you should trust someone just because they smoke a pipe. You don't know, they could be honking onn a crack pipe.

The whole concept of delivering presents to the entire world presents physical and mathmatical impossibilities.

The myth of Santa causes awkwardess and strained relationships when kids start to ask quesitons about him to their parents i.e. blame Santa for families falling apart. Especially odd questions such as why Chinese children don't get visits from Santa, why you don't have a chimney and why Santa brings more presents to kids with rich mummies and daddies,

Santa is responsible for a slew of God-awful songs.

He confuses dyslexic kids who can't understand why they should leave milk and cookies out for Satan..

Gift-giving Santa usurps the position of Jesus and the Christian message of Christmas.

He dresses in red, which you and I know as the symbolic colour for rage, anger and sexual promiscuity. All bad news.

Loads of other evidence could be brought to bear for this position.

When making a speech, remember that delivery is of the utmost importance.

Although the link below is not of a speech, it is nevertheless, one of William Shakespeares greatest ever soliloquys. Watch it carefully, listen to the intonation of the voice. Americans in particular have good speaking voices. The same applies to the Irish and to the Scots. So, if you are one of any of the above, you'll do just fine. It's in the blood - "All the world is a stage...."

The trick with speech making is practice. Take your time. Begin by writing the first couple of lines of your speech, then stand before a mirror and speak the words outloud. Hold your chin up. If possible record as you speak, that way you can play back and edit and improve as you go.

Might I suggest "The Value of Helping Others".

Research shows that one of the healthiest things a person can do is to help others. Helping others gives us a feeling of being useful. The younger a person starts to help others the longer that person will reap the benefits. Helping others enhances health by giving meaning to our lives and promoting an inner feeling of self-worth.
