Causes of VN Commodore overheating, not water pump.?
1990 VN Commodore. Driving home from TAFE (only a short trip of 15min) my Commodore decided to overheat and stayed up when driving away from lights. Steam started coming out and when I opened the bonnet coolant was everywhere, with steam coming out from behind the water pump at pressure. The water pump is brand new (last 2 months replaced). Wondering what could be the issue.

You may have sized thermostat, Remove it and put in a pot of cold water on the stove. Bring it to the boil and watch. If the thermostat opens when boiled it's all good. If it stays closed, replace it. Is your thermo fan working. When the engine gets hot, the thermo switch turns the fan on. If either of these are faulty she will overheat. Particularly while stopped at lights or caught in traffic. Fill with coolant and pressure test the cooling system to rule out any leaks.Good luck.

clean all the coolant off, fill your radiator up again. dry all the water off the car so you can see the leak. start the car and watch for water It is probably best to get it to a mechanic though
