Christianity vs. Atheists revisited?

I asked this question earlier today:

http://answers.yahoo.com/question/;_ylc=X3oDMTE1aT...

When people ask "what would the world be like without religion?", I can point directly to this study.

No religion=more suicides! However, the study does NOT answer the question, WHY this is so?

I suppose I can safely speculate that it may be directly related to the hopelessness one experiences when you feel that you have NO PURPOSE in life.

Update 2:

Murder and genocide occurred through Atheistic Communism as well.

I agree with you. Many (unfortunately) spend their days in a sense of "Nothing". No purpose. no hope, just going through the routines and being unhappy all the while. God gives hope, love, and purpose to all. We just have to leave the world of Me first and accept his salvation.

I am an atheist. I do have a purpose in my life. It is to raise my son to be a respectful man, and to enjoy every moment I am alive.

I believe that the reason there are more suicides among atheists is because they may feel alone. If a child comes from a christian family, and chooses to be an atheist, their families will usually look down upon them, and treat them as inferior.

If an atheist decides to be a christian however, most atheist parents would quietly accept this. Plus, the person converting to christianity gains a church...

The atheist gains truth, but it may take time until he finds others that share in his beliefs.

This is why I think suicide may be more prevalent.

This is dudu...If we had no religion we wouldn't have had all the wars in the past 2K years including the illegal occupation of Iraq. How many lives would that have saved?

Edit: Communism is not about atheism. Don't give me that talking point. It just replaces relgion with a cult figure. True atheism is about science and viewing the world with an open mind. Like Newton, Galelio, Copernicus, and Einstein. We have yet to build a society on this ideology.

I notice the "study" does not mention the possible effect that the relentless social pressure of living in a predominantly Christian country (yes, even Sweden) has on the morale of an atheist. Nor does it distinguish between impulsive suicide and suicide for a compelling medical reason. Statistics about legality are mentioned but left uninterpreted. I'm not too impressed.

Who says I have no purpose?

I make my purpose, just like everyone else.

I don't think that would be the case. If every religion were to disappear, they would be reinvented the very next day. Religion is an integral part of the human psyche, that why even atheists (and us agnostics) continue to study it, even when we don't believe a word.

  • But murder and genocide would probably dramatically decrease!!

And maybe mental illness wouldn't have such a stigma attached, no demons involved!

EDIT - Communism has FAR more in common with religion then you would like to admit. They replace "god" with the state but the worship of the all powerful entity is the same as is the murder in it's name.

Why do you people feel the need to constantly attack us athiests on here? Why can't you just have respect for our beliefs? So what we don't believe the same thing as you. Is that in some way harming you? I think not. So get off your moral high horse and worry about the hypocrisy in your own religion rather than attacking others.

At least some can be attributed to people who are sick, in constant pain, and have no chance of recovering - but if they believe in a god that damns people who commit suicide to eternal torture, they'll rather take the limited pain of being tortured while alive.

Atheists who are sick, and in constant pain, and realize they will die in a while anyway and meanwhile are just a burden on their family can just let go.

Now my question is y do u need a purpose? We all want to think were special but in truth we are no different, were all brothers and sisters and should just accept that and stop hating.
