What would you think if?

I am a bride getting married for the 2nd time. It'll be my fiance's first wedding. I went shopping looking for my dress but couldnt find the right one. I didnt want white, so I was looking at turquoise and aqua as my wedding theme is beach and butterflies. Anyways I was not looking for a traditional gown, as it is a backyard wedding, but I did have a style in mind. Anyways very disheartened and after walking miles and miles and miles and trying on hundreds of dresses, I found one the exact style I wanted, with the hem length and handkerchief type hem that I wanted, at an absolute bargain price.....only it was white!!!

I bought the dress and am now in the process of beading it with some crystals in the turquiose colour, and clear. I am also going to make a turqoiise organza shoulder wrap to go with it. I think it will come up really pretty but, what would you think of a bride, who has children from her previous marriage, wearing white? Is it a little too inappropriate?

Update:

I am thinking now that my MOH and eldest daughter can were the turquise, which will bring out the turquise beading I am adding to the dress.

The dress only cost me 29.95, it was reduced from $169. With the beading and wrap I will get away with it for less than a hundred dollars!

Update 2:

Thaks everyone. I feel better now. I was sitting there beading away and started wondering what people would think. I wondered if I should work it out before doing any more beading.

Thanks for making me feel better :o)

Hi. It will be fine. LONG gone are the days that white was a sign of purity. I mean, come on....most couples live together for a while (sometimes years) before they marry and they wear white! It doesn't matter that you have been married before. Your dress sounds perfect. It's not like you are choosing the big poofy cinderella gown. It sounds nice and understated. And a bargain shopper too! Good for you!

I hope you have a beautiful wedding day!

White was never a sign of virginity, that's an old wives tale. It became tradition after first being a fad started by a queen. I think the dress sounds absolutely gorgeous. And you bridesmaids wearing the same color of your beads is a wonderful idea! It sounds absolutely beautiful!!! Congratulations on your wedding!

White as a wedding dress colour on became popular with Queen Elizabeth, before that women used to wear any colour at all!

Enjoy wearing white. You will look beautiful. It is a colour of beauty and innocence and purity. BUT not purity as you think rather purity of heart and of mind. So back in the glory of the only one allowed to wear this amazing colour on your special day!

White = all colours of the rainbow combined

I say go for it! Anyone can wear white nowadays, but like you, I felt a little funny going with all white just because of what some people would think. So my dress is white with turquoise also!

I think having color on the white will shut up even the most old-fashioned of guests/family.

I had the same thing, only I had no children from my first marriage. My second, my husband's first. I wore white, I don't think anyone really cares anymore. Hell, let's face it, there aren't that many virginal brides ANYWAYS right! It's your wedding, your choice. I see wearing white as a fresh start...you can think of it that way too!

There is absolutely no prob with wearing white - 1st time brides are wearing ivorys, blacks, reds - anything these days, so there is no reason a 2nd time bride can't wear white if she wants. It all sounds beautiful to me!
