Is it possible to change the name on airline tickets?
I booked two tickets through airtran.com and one of the passengers is going to have surgery and not able to fly in time. Am I able to change the name on that ticket to someone else who will be able to come on the trip?

it depends on the rules of the airlines you booked your travels with. call them and ask. some tickets are non transferable but some to accept the change with a change fee.

I doubt the airlines can change the name unless it is because the person's last name changed because of marriage. This recently happened with my sister. A friend booked a ticket using her maiden name and her driver's license has her married name. The airline at first wanted to see her marriage certificate (which she did not have) but changed it anyway. So I think depending on the airline and their policy, they may or may not. You have to contact them to find out. Maybe if you explain the situation, they might be more considering.

I used to think name changes are not allowed and that airline tickets are non transferable. Just today I read on yahoo answers that a person was trying to sell his Virgin Atlantic air ticket from London to LA, since the airline was willing to change name for a fee. I suggest you call Airtran and ask. Afterall this is a genuine situation and it doesn't cost anything to ask. Good luck!

While some airlines outside of the US allow name changes on tickets for a fee, virtually all US airlines do not allow them. AirTran is no exception -- their published policy on their website specifically prohibits the transfer of tickets from one person to another and does not allow the name on the ticket to be changed.

normally names can not be changed on tickets and are non transferrable. those are the rules. if you call the airline though and tell your story they may talk to a supervisor and see if they will allow it. they dont have to because its a rule, but sometimes if the supervisor thinks its a good enough reason they will do it for you. the best thing to do would be call the airline and tell them whats going on and try to get some sympathy. the more "sad" you make your story the more likely they will do it for you.
