can i apply for disability while home with my baby?

my Job does not offer any maternity benefits. I would like to stay home with my baby at least for six months to breast feed exclusively. My boyfriend does not make enough money to support all of us alone. Will i be able to apply for disability benefits while i am out?

No, pregnancy and childbirth is not a disability.

Check with your job and see if they will allow part-time work, or if they have any work you can do from home.

You can still feed your baby breast milk exclusively if you go back to work, but you will have to pump during the day and supply the daycare with breastmilk to be bottle fed to your child.

No, unfortunately not. You have to be disabled to get disability and even then, it's HARD to get. I EBF my baby and you can pump and give your baby expressed breast milk while you are away. A lot of moms work and breastfeed! Employers HAVE to, by law allow you time to go pump while at work. It's not as hard to do as you may think. I started working part time again when my baby turned 4 months old. I needed the time away from baby (4 hours does WONDERS) and daddy needed the time to bond with baby! Plus, the extra money definitely does not hurt! My son will take either the bottle or breast and only drinks breastmilk. It is possible!

    Very best wishes!

Sorry, but no you can't. Disability is designed for people with a lasting condition. Since your Dr. can release you to work at your 6 week checkup you would not qualify for disability. I know it's hard, we are a single income family and just had our 3rd child. If you need more information check here http://www.social-security-disability-claims.org/

You can stay out on FMLA for 26 weeks (6 months). This is unpaid leave from your job but they have to hold the job. You can apply for disabiliy benefits and keep them as long as you are "sick". Most women are well enough to return to work in 6-12 weeks. The desire to stay home is not a disability. Post-partum depression might get you a doctors note. (however I wish both you and your baby health and happiness!)

Are you disabled because you had a baby, and cannot work?

I dont think any doctor is going to sign you off on disability because you plan to brest feed.

I work, and my son gets breast milk... i dont think there should be any problem for you doing both!

Not unless you ae actually disabled. Breast feeding or motherhood, while difficult, do not constitute a "disability." Applying for disablilty for anything other than being truly disabled is unethical and fraud. Sorry.

Wouldn't most mothers like to stay home with their newborn for 6 months and breastfeed exclusively!?! Giving birth does not make you disabled. While you probably qualify for assistance, you should probably tell your boyfriend to get another job to support you and the baby. I don't feel like supporting you with my tax money.

You should also tell him to marry you. In many states, if something happened to you and the baby, he would not be allowed to make any decisions in your care or the baby's care.
