Yes I sure do remember those. As a matter of fact my grandparents had them on their cars seats. Both of my grandparents are gone now. Don't recall what happened to the car. My grandma just passed away about 3 years ago. Theirs were not the smooth plastic, it had bubble like things on it, so they were not that hot in the summer. By the way, we live in Oklahoma as well. The summers do in fact get hot but I just don't remember their seats in that car being hot at all.
Mom and dad does keep a cover over their seat in their truck as well. But it is one that mom made her self years ago.
Once the cover comes off the seat it will still look new like it was the day it was first put on.

Honey....we had plastic that covered everything that didn't move. Remember...it was a 1 time life investment....we didn't replace everything with every new whim.
We bought a house that we thought could take us from young married couple to old people.....we didn't look at that big investment as something that lasted 5 years. Maybe it's why I'm so lost. A decision back then was for LIFE.....not for the moment. You guys look at everything for the moment....and that moment can change very easily and quickly....A home was the American Dream.....A home.....1 home.....you didn't buy and sell homes like you were a renter. Buying a home ment settling down.....not for a year or 2....but for LIFE!!!!!
No...if I was settling down and LIVING in Oklahoma.....an AC would be a primary thing I'd be looking for., Heck....I'd expect to be driving it for the next 10 or SO years!!!! Are you? Or are you one of those people who buys a brand new car every 2 years? If you are a short term investor....suck it up and sweat. Long term...you can complain.

We had them & I still have the original box they came in from the Fingerhut Catalogue Company! I packed all my childhood school papers & art work in it. That was in 1964 & that box is as strong as the seatcovers were! Maybe even stronger! They sold their car in 1985 & when I helped them take the plastic off the back seat, the material looked like it was new, 20+ years after they were delivered! Years of sticking to those seats & getting the pattern inbedded on my arms & legs throughout my childhood has left me with a strong dislike of anything plastic in my life!

Boy do I ever remember. My uncle owned a full service station right after WW2. I loved hanging out there. He had the penny peanut machines and icy cold coke in the small bottles. I was about 4 in 57 and he aquired the most beautiful candy apple red 1953 buick, I cant remember the make but ot was huge and had shinny crome all over it. The car also had strips of white. The interior was mosly white leather with red strips. They covered it in the plastic seat covers. One day he wanted to take me out for lunch. I went tearing over and jumped right in the car. Hot summer day, no air. I let out a yelp that was probably heard downtown. Uncle Joe fixed it up with some towels for me to set on. What a great man with a great car. Thanks for the memory.

My family bought a new 1956 Plymouth and the clear plastic seat covers got throw in the deal. We did not have A/C and in our Oklahoma summers when we got out of the car we all looked like we had wet our pants.
THIS MUST BE AN OKLAHOMA QUESTION. IS EVERYONE ON HERE FROM OKLAHOMA? EMAIL ME OKIES AND WE WILL TALK.

I remember those covers. They were suppose to protect the fabric but they looked awful and very uncomfortable. Hot in the summer and cold in the winter.
I had not thought of those in years but it sounds like something my 86 yr. old mother would do. I never would use them on my car seats!
That was a trip down memory lane. How nostalgic.
