How do I wash my cashmere sweater and jacket?
I just bought a cashmere sweater and jacket from Banana Republic, and I need to know how to go about washing and drying it because I think I ruined my last one.. Its not as soft.

100% Cashmere needs care while washing. But hand washing at home with proper wool wash doesn't cause any problems. We are trading in cashmere so we have tried and tested it. People generally say on label to dry clean for being bit safe.
You can follow following instructions if you want to wash your cashmere at home:
1. Buy a wool detergent (not softener) from a nearby shop/store. It should say on the bottle that it is safe to wash wool. It comes cheap.
2. Take a luke warm water and mix the wool detergent into it (quantity should be as mentioned on bottle of wool detergent)
3. Keep cashmere in the above mixture of liquid for 15-20 minutes.
4. Hand wash gently and then use clean water to take detergent out of cashmere.
5. Hand squeeze as much water as possible from the cashmere. Don't wring. Wringing cashmere destroys shape of clothing sometimes.
6. Lay flat to dry on a clean sheet. Don't hang for drying.
Hope this helps you. Enjoy your cashmere sweater and jacket.

I agree with mermeliz, XTX, and Nana Lamb.. I would recommend to dry clean the jacket especially because of the Cashmere, but if you rather don't bring it to the dry cleaner, then soak-wash it very gently as Nana Lamb is already describing. Depending on your LG model number.. you probably also have a wool cycle available but hand wash is still safest for Cashmere.
