Is Absolut Vodka right? Should Mexico take half of America back?

This link is to the ad that Absolut placed in Mexico.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/laplaza/2008/04/me...

Why would they think that this is appropriate to put this in ANY ad? This is fostering the INVASION of the USA....I think its pretty screwed up and I wont be drinking ANY Absolut Vodka until they publish an apology and a an ad that shows Absolut America with our borders STRONG and INTACT!!! Anyone think this is wrong but me? Tell me why!

Update:

Just to provide explanation to SOME people on here...America bought the land in question from Spain, and the Spaniards who conquested you! Take your problem up with Spain please. Thanks.

I was thinking of other ads Absolut could run appealing to the desires of consumers. One I thought of was replacing Israel with Palestine. Another one would be to go back to year and a half, when Nazi Germany and Commie Russia had both invaded and divided Poland. How about an Absolut ad depicting an independent Tibet? How would China take that? There are all kinds of border disputes, while the US-Mexico border is not in dispute, it is settled and has been settled. You’re supposed to deny that reconquista exists and label anyone who criticizes it and mentions just how pervasive it is as a racist.Write on the chalkboard 500 times: Reconquista isn’t real. And mindlessly repeat what the National Council of La Raza (The Race) claims: Reconquista is just a “code word” invented by conservative “hate groups” who are just dreaming the whole thing up.

Any company that takes a stand like this, is not worth my time to purchase what they sell. It is a form of hate advertisement. The double standards of some people are simply arrogant. If an American company ever posted an ad about mexico or other 3rd world country, people would be screaming racist remarks or anti-latino remarks. Screw Absolut, it will never be allowed near me or where I choose to drink again. Lets see how many millions this fire storm will cost Absolut... lets see how many mexicans can afford Absolut's ridiculous over priced piss water. Most mexicans yearly income is about $4000 dollars in American currency, I don't think many will be able to afford a $30 bottle of Absolut. Did Absolut forget they sell Vodka and not tequila? or did the person who started this ad for Absolut really just work for another Vodka company as a way to destroy Absolut. If so, good for the other company.

Wow, there are a lot of igorant people commenting on this issue. All I will say, is we need to get our facts straight on both sides. I won't be the one to give a lecture, because I'm sure someone will just come back and try to disprove what I say. Anyway, I would like to say to those who sit on their high hourse and brag about how great and rich our country is, and that it's Mexico's own fault they are in the situation they are in. Again get your facts straight, and remember that the "third world" is not so far away, just go to LA and see people of all colors and races living on the streets. Also those who say that Mexicans cannot afford this Vodka, have you ever actually been to Mexico, there are places just like here that are very well-to-do. Not all of Mexico is living in shacks with 20 people. I reiterate, get your facts straight before you go spouting ignorant comments. Ignorance is what is killing us, here in our own country, across the border, in Iraq, with the enviornment, with everything. Rather than wasting time, boycotting vodka, which is worthless anyway, because let's face it, it's alcohol, like cigarettes and drugs, they will never go out of business. We should spend this energy boycotting a worthy cause, like corporations who outsource to other countries, and who don't pay thier employees minimum wage. Let's stop being ignorant and educate ourselves on issues that will really create change for the good of all humanity.

    P.S. To Absolut, Bottoms up!

Many missed to notice that the French company Pernod Ricard bought the brand Absolut Vodka about a week or two before this ad was released...

And it' happens that the French are notoriously anti-American since decades, and that Pernod Ricard was notoriously involved in dirty operations against North America.

Check for that with all these names on the web and you'll see by yourself...

    Here lies the answer, guys.

Your additional details are misinformed. The US did not purchase Texas from Mexico or Spain. Most of the land acquired from Mexico (independent or colonial) was done so by intrigue, warfare, or threat of warfare. Only a small portion, that area known as Gadsen's Purchase, was paid for, and even then that was a "do this or ELSE!" sort of proposition. Having said that, I think it's fair to say that the time to raise a claim about that has long past. It is now American territory. (Would that assumption work in the Middle East? How long was Israel abandoned by the Jews before they took it back?)

Absolut thinks it's okay to run ad campaigns like this because nobody cares about what offends Americans. Hey, why should they care about us? We're only here to come to the rescue of every friggin' country in the bloomin' world when they NEED us -- but when it suits them, they dis us! It's jealousy, all jealousy. Just look at what Mexico has done with its remaining lands -- um, NOTHING! So many people outside the U.S. think that if they only had our land, THEN they'd be living as richly as Americans do! Well, I've got news for you -- we live in the richest country in the world ... because WE'RE FREE!!!!!! Duh-uh-uh! FREE your people, Mexico, and they'll live richly too. Sure, it would take time -- it ALWAYS takes time to build up a free people in a free economy, but the fact remains that the greatest resource on Earth is HUMAN RESOURCES! Yes, free people create!!!

I will NEVER buy Absolut vodka again ... and I own a restaurant! As far as I'm concerned, they will NEVER EVER live down this disgraceful campaign.

And to the people who say "it's just a campaign," like I said, it's always okay to offend Americans. If the ad had read differently and had offended Mexicans - watch out!!

Absolut executive-hotshots to approve such a controversial ad to be published but maybe they think Americans are a bunch of whoosies and Politically Correct Apologists so I guess that allows all the world to make fun of us and we should go hide our heads in shame !!!!!

    NOT !

Okay you USA Americanos, get pissed off and STOP buying ABSOLUT , make them wet their pants !

I think I'll switch to GIN tonight !

America is becoming nothing more than an idea, which is how it began. It was taken from you and me a long time ago. Sure, some freedoms still exist, but a little research will show you how that is eroding. Start by searching "free speech" and "taser deaths."

And this ad is NOT appropriate from any angle. It is comparable to making an absolut ad that depicts a US map with the South colored in the Confederate flag. Would that upset some people? But because of the current state of political correctness, this ad will be passed off as acknowledgement of the Hispanic struggle. Well guess what? There's a unifiying struggle we all ahve in common: The emerging police state.

Absolut has insulted America. Their ad is obvious support of reconquista. Boycott Absolut. Inform your local liquor stores.

Mexico would have to come up with the full purchase price, at current market value.

Absolut should retract the ad, and publish an apology. But they won't.
