Question about 97 Grand Prix?

I recently purchased a 97 Grand Prix from a private owner. We realized after the purchase that the keyless lock/unlock thing doesn't work. The trunk button works, but not the other two. Is there a way to get a replacement and who do I go to in order to get one?

You can purchase a remote from Ebay or the dealer (recommended), but either way the dealer will have to program the remote, and if it is another problem, they can diagnose it there.

I just might be abit cheaper if you installed an aftermarket alarm system with door lock accuator controls to open the door locks. Probly for about $100-200 depending of the brand of the alarm and for another $100 your could probly get a remote engine start too. The original key fob with probly cost about $100 each (might need 2) plus the programming another $125 or so...

Did you check the air filter, change the gas filter on a yrly basis?I'd do that plus clean the throttle body and it's linkage , plus I'd check the gas pressure valve or replace it, and check the gas pressure with a gage. Hope that helps and best of luck.By the way I'd be buying a service manual for that car bec it be quite helpful to you in the long run and look around the EGR valve for a plastic black valve device that has vac lines connected to it , that could be the cause.Keep in mind that certain parts would be very cheap to pick up at a big do it yourself auto wreckers.

I would recommend the dealer, it might cost a little bit more than a generic one, but they should be able to get a replacement one for the frequency that is already on your car.

    Good Luck

Go to a Gm dealer...they should be able to look into this for you and at least be able to get replacement parts.
