What is ugly?
I think the question, "what is beauty?" is rather useless. To me, beauty cannot truly exist because there is no solidified definition. People are always striving to be beautiful, but how do you know you are not beautiful to begin with, because WHAT IS UGLY? What is it? Tell me what you think.
No stupid answers, please. I want honest opinions.
I've had some really good answers so far, and as far as I'm concerned, you're all right in some way (except for the obviously dumb answers, haha). They're all good, so it's difficult to pick a best answer, but there's been nothing that blows me away with its insight yet, so we'll see. :)

A person, or people, being cruel.
In any of all possible forms; Judgemental, greedy, selfish, dishonest, abusive, wasteful, destructive, violent, etc.
That is true ugliness. The evil actions we spread, the harm we inflict upon others, the negativity being bred.
Ugliness is never a persons face, or a material object, it is not a place, or a question. It is the terrible things we do and have done.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, each persons definition of it may be totally different from the next, though generally influenced by societies "Norm". But Ugly is a stronger emotion, generally involving what "turns you off". Some people get violently ill at the sound of a finger nail clipper; "EWW GROSS".
Again society has some influence, but YOU still may find what most consider ugly to be cute. I have a very ugly dog according to my neighborhood, I think he's cute.

True.
Looks (ugliness and beauty) is in the eyes of the beholder. Period. The biological process for producing either is identical.
Chromosomes contain many genes, regulatory elements and other nucleotide sequences. Chromosomes also contain DNA-bound proteins, which serve to package the DNA and control its functions. In the end. The finished product is either UGLY looking or BEAUTIFUL. It's up to the beholder.

When you can not accept others for the way they are. When you constantly put them down for that sense of empowerment. Vanity is ugly. Sel-Importance.
I really don't know, but being ugly has nothing to do with your appearance. Being ugly is about wheteher you're a bad person. It's your personality that counts. It determines whether you are ugly or beautiful.

Ugly is selfish, greedy, rude, arrogant greedy self serving people who gleefully take every opportunity regardless of consequences to suit themselves. a person such as this can, and often does live in a truely attractive body, but their vile personalities even render that near perfect body as hideous to all that come in contact with them.

To me, ugly is as ugly does. Those who would victimize innocent children are ugly. Those who would stand there and not help a stranger in need are ugly. High school girls who pick on girls less attractive or popular then they are ugly. Trying to make your own fire look brighter by wetting on everyone else's fire is ugly.

There isn't a solid answer... but in my opinion acne, greasy hair, and things like that aren't very attractive. Ugly could basically be considered as someone who isn't taking care of themselves well.
I hope this helped :)

Ugly is the opposite of beauty, so why would there be a different way to define it?
