PS3 HDMI question?

I am about to buy a new ps3.

1)I was reading this article which said that a HDMI cable is not provided with a ps3. So which cable do i have to purchase as the price range varies from 10$-100$. Does the 100$ one improves the quality? Which one would you suggest?

2)Do i need to make any adjustments in the ps3 to get full HD 1080P resolution(I have a hitachi plasma PD9800TA and the manual says it supports full hd-1080P). So what are the adjustments and how to do them

    1) All HDMI cables are basically the same design. Just get one that is well-made and looks like it won't fall apart. There are many well-made HDMI cables available for $5 to $10.

The $100 cables are targeted to be sold as accessories to people who buy expensive HDTV's and surround systems. After they decide to spend $4000 on a package the salesman just says "ok, and of course you'll need these HDMI cables for ONLY $100." If the customer knows there are much less expensive HDMI cables, the salesman just says "well you're buying the best TV and receiver so you need the best cable." And then if the customer asks why that particular cable is the best, the salesman makes some bluster often involving "look, gold connectors."

The $100 are not any better than the $10 ones. They are for carrying a digital signal, much like ethernet cat-5 cables on your computer. Buying an HDMI cable for $100 would be as silly as paying $100 for a cat-5 cable. Retailers just can't get away with selling a cat-5 cable for that much, with HDMI cables they can.

    2) No, you don't need to make any adjustments. Your ps3 should automatically configure itself when you first turn it on. Make sure the TV is on and the HDMI cable is connected first. If it defaults to a lower resolution, just go into the ps3's settings on the xmb menu, and change it to 1080p.

First don't fall for the expensive $100 monster brand hdmi cables. It is a a digital signal and it will work just as good as the $10 cables. You can get them cheap at monoprice.com I use these same exact cables and never had a problem. To get your tv to display it in 1080p just go to the video settings all the way to the left on your xmb bar. When you select that your connecting your ps3 through HDMI you have the option of selecting how high you want the output to be. Just select the boxes up to 1080p and the ps3 will test and your fine.

    1. I really don't think it matters which HDMI cable you get, however, I recommend that you get a HDMI cable that is Gold-Plated on the tips.

    2. When you connect the PS3 with an HDMI cable and turn it on, on the screen it will display a message something like " An HDMI cable has been detected, do you want to set it up".

When you go through the setup for setting up HDMI, you will need to check the boxes of which video output modes your TV supports (720p, 1080p,). Since your TV is 1080p, you would just need to check all of the boxes.

And then there's just one more thing.

After you go through the intial HDMI setup and your PS3 is displaying through the HDMI cable, on the PS3's main menu, go to Settings and then scroll down to Display Settings. In Display Settings, put the RGB Full Range (HDMI) on "Full" and put Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super-White (HDMI) to "On".

    1) I have only seen hdmi cable for around $40-50 so I don't know if the cheap ones will work very well

    2) You just need to get the hdmi cables in order to get 1080P However, most games don't support 1080p yet.
