I think if a school could honestly teach the basics of all the different religions, for example:Buddhism, different forms of Christianity, Judaism,Wiccans, Atheists,Hinduism etc. it would be actually a form of education. Although, that would be extremely difficult. I believe it would help children better understand each others religion and aid in getting rid of SOME ignorant misunderstandings of different religions. I don't think anything negative would happen to the Christian religion. I personally would like to do that for my future children in some way.

Students in public schools are exposed to many different religions in History and Geography. They go to school with kids of other religions. They should get a sampling of many different ideas. I'm not sure what your question means.

They are exposed to different beliefs, It's one thing to teach beliefs, quite another to preach beliefs. I think required cirriculum in public schools should be to learn, on a scholastic basis, backrounds and histories of most major world religions. I don't want ANY faith preached in public school, but a good religious education would make a lot more people atheists a lot quicker.

I have always been a strong proponent of Philosophy, Sociology, and World Religion courses being added to the elective choices in High School. All of these classes are readily available at the college level. Understanding different people and different ideas promotes tolorance and peace.

I dont think it would make a difference, true believers would continue to believe. Some may convert if they feel the need. Sheltering children from different cultures and beliefs is not good, they learn to fear what they don't understand. True faith is unwaivering and cannot be shaken.

It would become stronger with knowledge of other beliefs because people would really know what the others stood for and perhaps it would end a lot of the hate out there!

We homeschool. Our children have studied history (history/geography....not social studies) since PreK. Comparative religion on an age appropriate level is taught with each culture and period studied. We have always participated in an INCLUSIVE homeschool group with whom we socialize, have group classes, science fairs etc. When I say inclusive I mean all faiths including Pagans, Wiccans, atheists, Protestants, etc etc etc. We are just people with the common denominator being homeschooling. We take advantage of opportunities to learn about one another's religious and cultural traditions first hand. We don't worry about separation of church and state. We break bread with each other, laugh, learn, cry and share. We are friends. We have kids in wheelchairs, autistic kids, "normal" kids, epileptic kids, parents who are doctors, parents who have blue collar jobs. And I haven't noticed anyone complaining of the agony of diversity.

So based on my personal experience.....the children do and would in most cases.....thrive and grow and become great open minded adults who are confident in their individuality and respectful of others.

They are exposed to different beliefs, at least somewhat. Even if there is no comparative religion class, there's always world history.

Children are! unless you lock your kids in a closet! (not recommended) The world is changing our culture is more diverse. You don't go to school in all WASP neighborhoods any more.
