To other women, the traits might be physical prowess, religious faith, a high-paying job, et cetera.

One reason women tend to go for bad-boy types who will treat them like garbage and then leave them is that the women are attracted to the hypermasculinity of those men. They see a grunge musician up on stage, they like what they see, and the lizard brain says, "Let's have some babies." Fast-forward to the next morning and maybe it wasn't the best idea, but the primal motivation was still there.

Of course, not all women leap on musicians for one-night stands. That takes a certain personality type and probably a fair amount of alcohol. Still, it illustrates my point.

There's more to life than the lizard brain, but you can't escape evolution.

You've taken it one step further, asserting that if women didn't withhold sex and /or use it as a trading currency, men would not compete amongst each other (and presently, women as well) for the attentions of women.

Seems as if male aspirations are a side-effect of women's selectivity and the commoditization of their sexuality.

That may already be happening. More women go to College than men. Men do only what is necessary to get laid, and to get laid by the best looking women. Perhaps we will soon see a world of women achievers married to burger flippers. Most of the highest achieving men are ugly, because they have to do that to get laid, and good-looking men can basically get laid for doing nothing, which is precisely what they attempt to do.

You might be interested in knowing that Charles Darwin had a theory that in some part of human history we were matriarchal. He also theorizes that it is a natural process.
