What is your opinion of TV shows getting involved in legal issues to get a story to increase their ratings?
I just read about a producer for the Dr. Phil show arranging to have one of the female teenagers from Florida that was involved in the taped beating of another teen released on bail. The reason was so that the show could get the exclusive story from this teen for the Dr. Phil show. What are your thoughts?

All of these shows use people and toss them away after.I think it's a crime. And the people are stupid to go on these shows. Do they think that Ms./Mr. celebrity are becoming a friend or something. They are exploited in the worse way possible so the celebrity can make a huge living.
I really think they have personal contempt for the people they get to come on their shows.
I do not watch these shows, something not very ethical about the whole thing.

You can contact the police officer's supervisors or internal affairs department, but you cannot sue them over this, especially if you got the dogs back. Police are a protected class when it comes to lawsuits. They can only be sued when there is gross negligence, and this is by far not the case here. As others have already pointed out, the police are not babysitters. Their first job is to secure the location and make sure everything is safe, not to go after a dog that got out of the house. Your dogs should have been better trained to not leave the house when the door is open. 1. No, the police shouldn't have let the dogs out, but the dogs are the ones that were not properly trained, and the dogs are the last thing on the officers' minds. You have to remember the police have no clue what they are getting into. They don't know if it's a robbery, kidnapping, just an intruder inside, etc. 2. Again, the police are not babysitters. 3. They can enter if there is probable cause, no "permit" is required. Look it up before claiming something you don't know about. ETA: As already stated, if you feel they were wrong, you can contact their supervisors, or internal affairs department and report them. They will be dealt with accordingly. What does the door not being open have to do with anything? If you don't want the police to do their jobs when your alarm goes off, maybe you should have your alarm disabled. If police have probable cause to believe something is not right, they have every right to enter the residence to make sure everything is OK. An alarm going off and a call from the alarm company is more than enough probable cause for them to enter without any sort of warrant. ALL the things you mention are things you can report to the internal affairs unit of the police department or the police officers' superiors. You have no lawsuit against them. No matter how you spin it, you have no lawsuit.

I read that also.
What I read was that several people went in together to bail this person out.
They (the show) had already talked to some of the parents about airing the show with some of the people involved. But it was felt by higher ups in the network that these people went way above what they should have by bailing this girl out and now the idea of the show has been canned.
I personally don't think they should have bailed her out.
I also don't think Dr Phil has his priority's set right.
Seems he is going to be where ever there is a story (remember B. Spears) and he can get top ratings with the pretense of "helping" these people.
One of the reasons I don't watch his show

I think that it is tacky. I think that Dr. Phil is tacky. Years ago I liked him pretty well but his show has taken a steep downhill slide. It seems he tries to find the most outrageous and stupid people to be on his shows that he can find. It seems to me that his show has become about entertainment more than enlightenment. That is never a good thing.

Gladys I have never liked Dr. Phil - he is not really a Dr to begin with! All he wants is ratings for his show - but this is totally uncalled for. His behavior to achieve ratings is atrocious, and should not be sanctioned. As for the girls involved in this disgusting case of abuse - I say let them get the maximum sentence allowed by law, and make them serve it! All of it. CJ

Is he not satisfied to be Dr. Phil anymore. Sounds like he wants more ratings and sensationalism than a a good quality show. It all boils down to more ratings more money !!!! Dr. Phil has gotten greedy !!!! I might as well watch Jerry Springer !!!!!

Lois They can be interesting to watch if they don't exploit the people involved but if I had a legal issue I would never ask to be on any TV show.

More garbage on televsion. I think it is really disgusting and if it were not for HGTV, TNT, AMC, History and Discovery channel I would get rid of cable!! I hardly watch tv anymore...most of it is supposed to be Reality TV but it isn't even reality!! As for Dr Phil doing this for ratings...I can believe it. It is all such a disgusting punch of junk these days.

GREAT QUESTION, Gladys !
I agree with vinny,Dr. (???) Phil, is a "gimmick" that was put out by Oprah. (another "joke") and I don't watch her "crap" either.
As far as the girl, NOT ABLE TO PAY HER BAIL, I think THE NETWORK'S SHOULD PAY IT!
Because they have gotten HOUR'S OF FREE MILEAGE from THAT "news".
