Does anyone play board games any more?

With the rise in technology and increase in game consoles, online games, etc., board games seem to have become old-fashioned. I still remember playing Scrabble and Monopoly with my parents and with friends at their house, and even the odd game of chess. Are board games pretty much extinct now or do people still get a thrill playing them, in real life, not online?

Update:

Glad to see people still like to play board games, they are somewhat nostalgic but wholesome fun.

I still love to play board games. And I know that most people now days only care about getting drunk or doing drugs. Try to find some friends who are more intellectual and I guarantee they will want to play board games. They might be a little nerdy but i would choose that over a friend with a hangover.

Love to play board games, grew up playing them every weekend of my childhood. Still play regularly with family at get-togethers several times a year as well as the odd weekend per month. Usually its Scrabble, sometimes trivial pursuit, monopoly, checkers with my nieces and nephews, chess and backgammon on occasion.

As a child; Operation, Sorry, Clue, Monopoly, Scrabble, Rimoli and many others that I cannot remember the name of.

Board games seems to be outdated now. Chess, checkers, scrabble, monopoly were favorites for most people. Times have changed and people are looking for other adventure else where.

Families used to play these games together or when friends came over they would entertain themselves by having competition among themselves.

They were hot games when they first came out. The novelty has worn out and newer and more modern technology has taken over.

I had to agree, is like record low peopel this day play board game after all the online, video game console we have, but I find many older peoples who don't like video games will still play board games, just not by large numbers, is all about parenting also, more than ever parent spend less time with their children, therefore children unlikely will play boardgame due to missing of peoples, board game need more than 1 person to play unlike computer games per example.

We do when we go to a cabin in Montana for weekend getaways. No internet, cell phone and the tv is used for movies only. We play all kinds of board games and enjoy the time away from all the technology.

ps: monopoly, scrabble, life, trivial pursuit, facts-in-five and others.

When my family gets together we still play board games. We have family that comes in from out of town and it's a great way to spend time together and catch up on each other's lives. One of our current favorites is Cranium. Of course, you can't ever go wrong with Monopoly.

i love playing board games in real life, its how you have fun when you have people round. You cant exactly play games online when you are with friends. But when you are at home alone playing online is sometimes the only way.

My boyfriend and I played a board game on Saturday (it was Game of Life) and my brother and I played cards together on thursday, or friday... can't remember. But they are way more fun then computer games! You don't get the passion and the competetiveness that you get with a computer screen!
