Does anyone agree with me on how important it is to feed your dog organic dog food?

One night I was reading online the horrible ingredients that are in most processed dog foods. My dog was very sick a few months back with a bladder infection and stones in his urine. The vet told me to buy a canned dog food that they sell at the vets and gave me some antibiotics. My dog was so ill he had not ate for four days, and would hardly drink any water until he started taking the antibiotics. It even took three days for him to start acting anywhere near normal. Then after reading about the ingredients that are in most processed dog foods, I changed to organic, and he is doing so well, its like he is the dog he was three years ago. It may cost more to buy the organic food, but it is well worth it, and I would rather put the money into good dog food, than vet bills!

I don't think it is absolutely necessary to feed organic or even premium diets, although i agree that many dogs do better on them. Companies such as Purina and Science Diet put a large amount of research behind their diets, and are constantly changing formulas as new nutrition research emerges. However, they do use a least-cost formulation when it comes to actually making the foods, which does result in many of the animal by-products being added rather than human-grade ingredients. There is also a lot of starch in these diets, but that is because the extrusion process requires it. The methods behind creating the Evo Brand kibble is actually a closely held trade secret, because their product contains no grains and other major companies have not figured out how to make a grain-free kibble yet.

Some people out there claim that dead shelter animals and roadkill go into pet foods, but i would like to clarify that this is completely ridiculous and if these rumors were based in fact, a company would have been should down or at least severely fined.

I don't use organic but I use All Natural and no "junk". Some people say that their dogs loose weight and this is true. It is more healthy for them so they are not as fat. If your dog has a low weight problem then there are high energy dog foods so that they will still get a good balanced nutrition. My mom never used real good dog food, as she didn't know any better, and her dogs lived old but I don't think it is just a question of how old they live to anymore. I do things for my dog because I care about their well being. Feeding bad dog food is like feeding a kid only candy, chips, and pop. They will still, most likely live long lives but they will not be as healthy as they could be, and it could kill them and it has. That does not mean I look down on people who feed their dog other food. If that is all they can afford then I still think they deserve to have a dog.

I love my dogs and Nutrition is important to me.

I agree that in a perfect world, we would all be able to afford Organic foods. When you get down to it though, people want pets and will do the best they can to provide for them.

For some of us that equals a good quality food and for others that means not so good quality food. We can scream until blue in the face about it, but most people will not spend more on their pets than they do on their kids.

Others will say that if you cannot buy premium food then you shouldnt have the pet. I argue that as long as the pet is healthy and taken care of and LOVED that the diet is up to the owners and their vet.

Food isn't always the cause of illness. As long as the dog is getting a high-quality food, there shouldn't be any health problems. Considering my family (and most people I know, for that matter) don't eat organic, I don't think our dogs should be fed organic food either.

But if you have the money and the desire to do so, go right ahead.

To each his own, but my dogs live to be ripe old ages, and healthy their entire lives. I've got dogs that are nearing 10 years old that have never been to the vet for anything other than routine shots. Bladder infections and stones can happen to any dog. I think your dog is doing well now because the antibiotics cured his illness, not because you switched feed.

Yes, but I also argue that it's important for people to eat organic food, too, lol, so both me and my dogs eat almost exclusively organic foods. People food just like dog food can be too processed and filled with artificial chemical compounds, too.

I don't like to think that I'm feeding any growth hormones, antibiotics, steroids, or other stuff I wouldn't give them otherwise, and they definitely don't need any of that stuff.

Especially since we fed our dogs a raw diet, for me it's really important to feed organic, free range meats, organs, and eggs, etc (though "freerange" is still hazily defined by the USDA) (and I don't eat meat at all).

If you wanna buy Organic dog food for my dogs then yes, I agree its the best...but unfortunately x-large dogs need to be rescued too and Organic food is not an option in my doggie home. I do add in boiled free range chicken& eggs and fresh fruits and veggies, so they get the more nutrition.

    No I don't.

You can not judge what is the best food for one dog by what is best for another dog.

For instants I love peanuts, but a single peanut could kill my daughter.

Likewise there isn't one single ingredient that could be put in a dog food that every dog on the planet could tolerate, there will always be the exception. It is your job as a dog owner to find the diet that your dog will thrive on.

You may feel it's important... but my family has had dogs around for years, and none of them ever ate organic food... yet some how they manage to live to be pretty old.. 20 years old (a border collie) was the oldest.. Same thing goes for people.. i choose not to eat organic food, i'm still healthy. All dogs are different and require different needs.
