Do you wish the major religions would start behaving more like the Amish and the Buddhists?
Even though I'm an atheist, I've always admired the Amish and the Buddhists for practicing their faith and being satisfied with that, and never seeing the need to cram their creed down the throats of everyone else. Wouldn't it be great if Catholics, Jehovah's, Protestants, Mormons, etc. would all do the same? Tell all the stories of virgin births, seas parting, bushes burning, wise men with incense, etc. you want but leave the rest of us out of it. We're busy with the business of real life.
I was really limiting it just to the annoyance factor people, like I said Catholics and the others can tell all of their fairy tales to each other, just leave us who live in the real world exclusively alone.

Well, maybe more like the Buddhists, the Amish are pretty much in full retreat from modern life, society could not survive if any of the major religions did that, just look at the middle east.....

It would sure bring wars to a stop...
Mennonites are the same way, by the way - pacifists.
The Amish broke away from the Mennonites because they felt their native religion was becoming too modern - people often confuse the "old order" Mennonites with Amish because there are only minor variations in dress.
I know you didn't need that information, but I thought I'd pass is on, anyway.
Good point, by the way.

Yes, I think the major religions should follow their example, and. also that of the Quakers, Pagans and Jains, who have much in common with the other two including refraining from violence.
Edit:
ruth, if Amish and Buddhism had been that widespread in the US in the 1930s and 1940s, chances are they, or similar beliefs would have been widespread elsewhere (including Europe) and WW2 would not have happened.

You mean the real Amish and Buddhists, or the Amish and Buddhists you see on TV?

No
Pacifism is not always a good thing
How in the world can anyone force anyone else to hear their stories. How many times have you been physically held down and forced to hear anyones religious stories?
People like to exaggerate this supposed cramming and forcing of beliefs down others throats.
It would not bring any wars to an end. I still cant believe people think wars are about religion. Talk about not paying attention in history class. If someone is going to engage in war with you should you just lie down and surrender to keep the peace?

The amish are about segragationalism, and the Buddhists are killing eachother in the streets of China right now. Why would we want to be like them?

I think it would be cool if there was sect of Pagans who lived like the Amish and did work like in Buddhism....except the whole bit with not getting revenge. We always get our revenge.

And just think about how WWII would have gone with a nation full of Amish and Buddhists.

Highly respectable belief systems like that are few and far between. I think they are true believers and not just trying to keep score with number on converts and other BS.
