Why does my pit do this?

She's just bringing you presents to show you that she missed you and is happy that you're home or at least back in the house. You don't have to reward her, she's rewarding you. Just show her in some way that you accept the gift and she should be fine. When she's not looking, return the "gift" to its proper place.

As a trainer, I see this problem with dogs that like to retriever. What happens is they become neurotic about the retrieving, swimming etc. So:

First: make sure you are walking your dog at least 2 times per day 30-60 minutes - energetic dogs can wear a backpack that is weighted down with 10-20 pounds (healthy, large dogs). The walk is a walk - brisk not lazy, sniffing or a power struggle.

Next: Do not allow her to initiate play with any toy. When you are ready, you pick the toy and play fetch. Make her sit/lie dow for the toy or do something for it. Her initiation of the constant play is neurotic neediness and it will worsen. When you are done say good girl and walk away. If she approaches you with the toy say 'not now' and walk away. Do not pet or reward her if she initiates the play.

If you wish give her a kong with peanut butter and let her work on it (we call them quiet toys) or another appropriate chew toys.

Keep up on the exercise and the training and things should work out. Cheers.

Don't reward her if you don't want her to keep doing it! If you think she might want to play, then when she brings you something, you put it down and get one of her toys to play with. Pit bulls are more likely to enjoy keepaway or tug-of-war than fetch.

She is bringing you gifts to show her devotion to you and get your attention. She probably just missed you and wants a cuddle not to play fetch.

this may be a stupid answer but she might just wanna play fetch. did you ever try taking the object, petting the dog, and then playing a good game of fetch with her? thats what i would do.thats cute though.

Does she want you to throw it, or play with her in some way? I'm not sure, I've never seen this.

it must be in some bully breeds nature to carry stuff, one of my pit bulls when we go out to walks will carry rocks home, branches......he gives them to me and hes really exited about it, i just take it ans say good buy!but my other pit wont even care about them. always supervise what he gets in his mouth!
