Why are evangelicals/fundamentalists so hateful and angry?
Be it muslim or christian or other, these evangelicals are so angry, it seems to conflict with what they SAY they believe.
For instance, Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson (agents of intollerance as McCain put it), Osama binLaden, the guy the killed Itzak Rabin... all evangelicals of christian, muslim, jewish or even atheists.

I am a evangelical Christian and I don't think I am hateful or angry. Neither are my friends. Unfortunately, Christians are not perfect, we are merely redeemed by Jesus to begin a process of being sanctified. I agree that such people (who actually may not Christians at all) are not a good example of Christianity. But if they truly are Christians, God will take care of them, teach and correct them. The other aspect of this is that the hatful and angry ones are the ones who get all the attention. The Christians who are busy loving others and the Muslims who are seeking a good life do not get noticed.

How about an example to back up your claim?
Christians are people too, and they're just as subject to anger as you or anyone else is. The problem is that too many people think otherwise. Being a Christian doesn't equate with experiencing some "magical" transformation that makes you immune from experiencing the full spectrum of human emotions that everyone feels and expresses.
Why would you assume otherwise?
Besides, the same could be said for atheists who pretend to corner the market on the "moral highground", yet who send e-mails to Christians and use the most hateful and obscene language extant.

Not all of us are. To be sure, there are some who are self righteous, and think it is their duties to tell everyone off that doesn't believe the way they do. But the majority of us care deeply about those who don't understand God's plan of salvation. Many of us weep and cry over the souls of those who are lost and going to hell. We don't want to see them perish, and just like a mother would yell at her child for playing in the street, it's not because she's angry with the child- it's because she was terrified he would get killed. A lot of Christians are trying to make a point to non- believers that they need to get out of the street, and to get their lives right with God so they will have eternal life, instead of eternal damnation.

Christians are called upon to love their enemies and pray for those who say all manner of evil against them falsely. We have to understand that if the world hated Jesus, then the world will hate us.
This truth takes a lifetime to understand and apply to our lives. We, like every other human being on planet Earth, have trouble responding with pure love when we are greeted with hatred. It is a natural response to become angry when an injustice like hatred is returned when we reach out with God's message of love and redemption for all people.
Receive Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior. Then your eyes will be opened to the "cross" we have to bear by sharing in Christ's sufferings. Endure to the end.

I am sure that your generalization is in error. Many refuse to surrender their happiness to useless debate and only focus on the joy that is found in helping others. There's really nothing else worth doing, no matter what the details of our existence may be.

ever read the old testament?
That's some pretty angry and hateful stuff in there.
Genocides, stonings, human sacrifice......
True believers take the tone of that stuff serious.
Fortunately, those people are a minority, most christians are pretty cool.

Peace be with you my friend.
The short answer is that it is their spirit which causes this.
Admittedly almost all of us mortals can become upset at times due to how our spirit wars against our flesh but without the Holy Spirit to assist in taming one's passions it is very hard for an individual to bridle his own spirit.
Pray for fiery sinners like me please.

Noticed how people react to opposition or criticism by calling others bigots, hostile, hateful and angry.

I can tell you for certain that anyone who has this kind of attitude is not a real Christian.

Same reasons so many atheist fundamentalists are so angry. Some people simply have a propensity to get mad and lash out at others. It's not at all a religious trait, rather a trait of humanity to attack that which they disagree with.
