Drug pusher doctor?

There is a doctor members of my family went to for years. Most of us stopped going to him. My brother (who is 34 and under the guardianship of our mother due to mental illness) has been going to this doctor regularly over the past year or so to get pain medication. My brother has no condition which would cause him pain, nor has this doctor examined my brother in at least a year. However, this doctor will prescribe my brother everything from Clonopin to Morphine to Lorcet.

My brother has OD'd on medications prescribed by this doctor on three separate occasions in the past 10 months. Our mother has called this doctor and told his office to put a red flag notice on my brother and not give him pain medication any longer. However, his office has once again prescribed him excessive amount of pain pills (even filling the prescription in office), resulting in another overdose.

My question is: Is this enough of a reason to report him to the DEA or AMA and have his license taken away?

YES. Contact the DEA and your State Board of Medical Examiners (this is the agency which actually licenses and regulates physicians, not the AMA) - they will deal with this!

Contacting the DEA (a federal law enforcement agency) will make sure that this does not get buried on the State level by some "good 'ol boys".

Also, which ever board regulates pharmacies/pharmacists in your state (also along with the DEA) might well want to look into the pharmacists who filled all those scrips, as they are also accountable, and should have already reported this physician for over-prescribing controlled substances!

Your mother may also want to speak to an attorney, to see if a legal suit can be brought against the physician(s) and pharmacist(s) involved, for harm caused to your brother. If there is any money to be had from these creeps, the attorney may well handle the case on a contingency basis, this meaning that he gets paid only if there is a Judgment with settlement, and that an initial consultation will cost your mom nothing.

    Good Luck!

Contact your state licensing board officials and file a complaint. They will handle it from there - they tend to take them very seriously. Unless you live in Nevada (thats the word on the street, so to speak)

I'd say it sounds like you have enough reason to report him. If you can afford it maybe ask a lawyer?
