Why do so many people put no details in their question?

I try to help by answering questions on subjects that I'm knowledgeable about. So many of the questions just barely give a hint at what the problem is. Questions like "Why did my computer stop working?" and there is nothing else.

Nothing to explain what it now does, any changes they made, what components are in the computer, what they do with it, how old it is, or any other symptoms they have seen recently. Each of those things is either helpful or necessary to answering.

If there are no details, one can only give very generic answers and guesses that are often a waste of time. If you read other questions and replies, most of the helpful replies are to questions that give those details.

Why are people so stingy with the information we need to give accurate answers? In the past, I have posted an answer asking for more information so I can help.

Often, we never hear anything more from the poster, not even to vote for a "best answer." They ask the question and disappear. Why?

Update:

I just saw one that was just posted. It said something like "What is the best computer for a photographer?" It makes no difference what you do for a living, only what you are going to do with the computer.

You might assume that a photographer is going to do a lot of picture editing, but that is only an assumption. That question should have added "I am mainly going to use it to edit pictures with Photoshop CS3. I typically edit over 200 high res, large size TIF pictures a day. I ususally keep them for three months then archive them."

That tells me so much more. I could help because two of my clients are professional photographers.

I agree on this but the average user lacks the technical knowledge and computer jargon to explain themselves better. Even if you expected them to explain what they did just before their computer failed they wouldn't be able to do so. I never expect them to rate my answer, but a thank you would nice at least.

I give vague answers for vague questions, at least you get 2 pts. They need to change it and put in boxes for specific specs like info boxes like when you fill out an address you have to put your computer info, if there was something like that it would remind people to do it and they might actually use it.
