data retrieval - any tips out there?
Had a computer failure and tech was unable to retrieve any data from hard drive.
I have had to completely replace the hard drive & computer.....I would only
get the black & white start up screen. When I chose to start up in safe
mode from that screen it would just go on a loop and come back to that
screen with the white writing on a black screen.
My tech could not even get a cursor up.
Emailed Sydney Data Recovery:
We offer a free lab evaluation and then a firm quote will be given and we will require a signed go-ahead before we proceed. We have a "no data - no charge" policy, but we are serious about data recovery and have been doing this for over 14 years.
Hard to say from your email- but really until the drive arrives in the lab all we can do is give you a price range and if I were to price for logical it would be between $500.00 - 1500.00. ****

It's hard to say from your message- if you could answer a couple
questions it will enable me to give you a price range.
Can you tell me if the drive spins up when power is put to it? If the
answer is yes does it make any unusual clicking noises? (if it is
clicking power off immediately!)

I have met very few professional technicians who can properly do data recovery. Like any profession, not everyone can do every task well.
If I understand what you wrote, it does ask if you want to go into safe mode. If so, some things are working. It takes certain components of the computer to even get to that point. It is quite difficult to tell the difference between a defective hard drive and one that is simply corrupted.
You said that you had to get a new hard drive and a new computer. That makes no sense, please explain.
Obviously, only you can determine if it is worth several hundred dollars to try to recover your data. Data recovery is sometimes hard to estimate because you can't know the extent of the damage without a lot of work. By the time you have done the work, the recovery is complete.
Thus, you can't really give a firm estimate, it's a catch-22. You did get a range and that is helpfull.
I suggest that once this is over, you hire a computer consultant to design a backup plan tailored to your needs. It sounds like your data is important enough that it should be protected in the future. It will be a couple of hundred dollars well spent because of the peace of mind you will get.
Again with that, not everyone is capable of designing a good backup plan. Ask for references and turn your anti-bs meter on when interviewing potential consultants.

I believe there are ways to recover it, but it can get expensive. Last time I recovered data from a damaged hard drive it cost me about $400 AUS and that didn't include the amount of hours he spent on it

Take out the previous complicated rigidity then replace the jumpers on the top to a slave rigidity. Plug it into the comparable cable as used indoors the nice and comfortable computing device then boot it up. you have gotten an further rigidity exhibiting. you should then retrieve the recommendations

based on the comment about the drive being stuck in a loop - sounded to me like the drive has picked up read errors on the boot sector - that means this is a logical issue not as far gone as a physical problem as yet....
Good Luck

I would recommend getting more debug analysis done on it. Sorry I can't give you a more definitive answer, but certainly email me and we can have a session looking into this further. It sounds like you have hardware or driver point of failure.
