wait...you've checked online and you know your cat is diabetic, but it hasn't been to a vet?

there are many many diseases and disorders that can have the same symptoms of feline diabetes. until you have a positive diagnosis from a vet on the cat's sugar level, you should not be attempting to treat the cat as such. things like crf can have nearly identical symptoms as diabetes, yet the food a cat with crf would need is vastly different.

this cat MUST go to the vet if you seriously want to give it a chance.

if you cannot afford to bring the cat in, check into other options: ask if your vet will break payments up, apply for care credit, ask your local shelters if they have info on low-cost clinics, borrow money for an initial exam and blood work if you have to. just do whatever it takes to get advice from a doctor. nothing you do on your own (without knowing vital info like just what the cat's sugar levels are) will do any good, and may in fact do harm.

She needs to go to the vet. But if you don't take her, the best advice I have for you is to feed her a high quality meaty diet. Cats with diabetes should not be eating dry food, which contains grain products that worsen the problem.

So - the most inexpensive brand I would recommend is Fancy Feast, which is almost entirely meat. It's still kind of junk food though for other reasons, a brand like Nutro or Wellness would be better. This will help stablize her blood sugar.

Your cat needs to be thoroughly checked by the vet to determine whether it is diabetes or not and it may need vet treatment if it has complications.

If it is diabetic, it needs a diet that is low in carbohydrates (just like Type 2 human diabetics) and Both of your cats will benefit from this diet.

And if it is diabetic you will need to give it insulin shots twice a day and to keep it safe you will need to test it prior to each shot.

It sounds tough but is actually pretty easy. There is a great website www.felinediabetes.com that has a ton of info and a great message board.

But first, the cat really needs to be seen by a vet.

I looked on-line and found out I have testicular cancer. Too bad I am a woman with no testicles! On-line sources CAN NOT BE TRUSTED. Take your cat to the local cat shelter or ASPCA/RSPCA, who will assess and treat your cat a lower price and usually let you pay it off. Your cat could die from whatever it has. Have you treated it for intestinal worms? Sometimes that's all the problem is when it's weight loss. Either way, get your cat to a Vet.
