Need some ideas for planting in zone 5/zone 6.?

We live in a south facing apartment that is more shade then sun. Some sites say we are zone 5, some say zone 6. We have a strawberry pot http://www.thepotplace.co.uk/images/strawberry_pot... that was purchased for hens & chickens, but I am not going to plant them in the pot.

Does anyone have any ideas besides herbs & strawberries that we can plant in the pot? We are in central Indiana.

Update:

because of the 3rd answer, I wanted to add that we live in an APARTMENT and do not have a yard, only a BALCONY.

In the veggie garden, Leaf lettuce does well in strawberry pots, as does Spinach. Sprinkle the seeds in the holes and water like normal. The plants come up in the holes and grow to picking size.

For flowers, any type of bedding plant like Short Marigold species should do fin.

I'm in Brownsburg--if you have a shady yard, try hostas--they're perennials, they have gorgeous leaves (the flowers are OK, but you buy them for the leaves). Also, they will flourish, and if they get bigger than you want them, after about 3 years you can divide them (cut them in half) and replant the two halves (but you can get them in all sizes, as well as colors and types of leaves). There is a hosta club in Indianapolis that holds sales every year or so, so you can get different sorts--you can get either very expensive ones, or buy cheaper ones at most home improvement stores, even Meijer. Other good shade plants would be impatiens, ferns, or pansies.

You might try filling up the smaller holes in your pot with Irish moss, then planting impatiens or pansies in the larger part.

Moss roses look really nice in strawberry pots. They also re-seed themselves and will keep coming back. You can also save the seed pods....you'll get hundreds of seeds.... to re-plant the following season. Also strawberry pots can be hard to keep watered and moss roses do very well without a lot of water.
