Yes there were, there were news pamphlets which reported on the newsworthy events of the times - or periodicals.
They were called correspondents then tho'.
They contained much of the stuff that is in a newspaper today.
A mixture of news, gossip and adverts etc.
The world doesn't change much to be honest- people worry about the same things throughout the ages.

yes we have had journalists for a lot longer than that
as prior to 1952
we only had a queen Elizabeth
no queen Elizabeth 1
then in February 1952 on the death of her father King George VI.
the present Queen Elizabeth ascended the throne
who became Queen Elizabeth 2
giving our Queen Elizabeth of 1558 to 1603
the title of Queen Elizabeth 1
so the answer is yes we have had journalists in the time of
( Elizabeth I (1952) )
Source(s): what did they call our present Queen Queen Elizabeth 2 first son any one know the answer to that one - Anonymous1 decade ago

Hardly anybody could read in those days, so newspapers would have been pointless.
