Michael Jackson vs. Fall Out Boy?

First of all, PLEASE don't get mad at me if you're a fan of Fall Out Boy who gets easily offended. I'm not trying to "bash" them, I'm just expressing my opinion, and openly asking for you to share yours as well.

A friend of mine told me that Fall Out Boy did a cover of Michael Jackson's "Beat It." I swore to dear God that I wouldn't listen to it for fear that it would ruin the original, but I decided to go ahead and YouTube it anyway.

When it comes to covers of songs, particularly songs from before the 90s, I usually either really hate the cover or really love it. Fall Out Boy's version happened to be a cover that I really hated.

Comments? Opinions?

Update:

-x--amber:

I never implied or said that I hating the cover meant that no one else could possibly like it.

And sure, Michael Jackson and Fall Out Boy are two completely different artists and shouldn't have to be compared, but they're obviously going to be compared when they have a version of the same song.

We all have our opinions (and I think that people that don't like Fall Out Boy were being pretty kind to those that do). So no, we will not all shut up now.

I reeaally dislike the cover. For one, MJ's version has SUCH an amazing beat, you know when it's the first time you hear a great song like beat it, and your listening to it and the beat is SO amaziing, and once it gets out of your head you have to go listen because you need it back in your head? thats what happened when i first ever heard beat it (MJ's version).

Michael obviously worked to make an amazing beat with also a good sound to the lyrics, now, I guess FOB is good becausewell, there famous, i'm not really into them though. And I also REALLY don't like this cover of beat it! why? they took how Michaels insanely amazing beat, replaced it with guitars and then just sang the song in the same way they do all there songs. it;s like they said "Okay change to guitar and lets just sing the lyrics" they totally drained the song, and personally it annoys me when people cover songs that are absolutley amazing, you know so amazing that no one would be able to make a succesful cover because you just CAN"T deny the original, and also when people hear the cover on the radio or something they get mad (like myself) because i would x10000000 rather hear the original.

But FOB did tribute Michael a lot in the video, according to them. Notice how pratically every person has a white glove on and such etc. etc. They say it's a tribute but seriously why don't they just cover songs for fun in there basement and do there own thing when it comes to music/videos. kudos to FOB for being good people, but didn't dig how they detroyed the original in there cover song at all...

    ♥ MJ

Now the 'Beat It' beat is stuck in my head...not entirely a bad thing though...;)

for everyone slating fall out boy, can i just say that the cover happened out of randomness and it never was meant to get big?they just did it messing around and people liked it so they released it. the video does make sense to fans because it is connected with some of their other videos and has a lot of MJ references in it. of course the cover will never be as good as the original but if you dont like it, it doesn't mean no one does. of course pete wentz will be in the video, he is in the band so i think you should all shut up now.

Michael jackson and fall out boy are both completely different artists so you cant really compare them .

  • i like the MUSIC to Fall Out Boy's version but I hate his voice. Besides Michael Jackson would win cause he had Eddie Van Halen play guitar on that song.

Between those two, Michael Jackson outclasses Fall Out Boy by a mile.

But I actually prefer this version:

Alot of people have done redone versions of many songs off Michael Jacksons Thriller Cd. Its to celebrate its 25th anniversary. I myself don't like the redone versions. They're the same but totally different. You just can't remake a classic.

Actually, Fall Out Boy's cover wasn't that bad as people make it to be. The video sucked though because it didn't make sense PLUS stinkin Pete Wentz's face in the end.

Still though, nothing can defeat the original..MJ, Eddie Van Halen. Thing is, covers like these can lead people to new artists...in the case, FOB fans may go listen and become fans of MJ.....or become VICTIMS OF MJ :)
