  • Question about speech problem?

This is kind of a random question, and I honestly didn't know where to post it, so I decided to try here. I'll probably post this exact same question, word for word, in a few other sections, just out of hope of getting a few more answers. :)

Anyway, all my life I've had a slight speech impediment, and I thought I might as well try to get some thoughts about it on here. I've had problems with the "ch" "sh" and "j" sounds, along with any other words that use any variation of those sounds.

My question is about tongue placement during these sounds, particularly during the "sh" sound, as I can figure out the rest based on that. Where are the sides of the tongue and, most importantly, where is the tip of the tongue? What does the tongue do when making this sound? I feel absolutely ridiculous asking this, but I would really like to know, even if it doesn't cure my own problems with this.

My own tongue, during the "sh" sound, has the sides pressed up against the gums just inside the teeth. The tip of my tongue is behind my front teeth on the gums, which I know is wrong. I've gone to a specialist before and I was able to sound better, but tongue placement wasn't really clarified... And I know that's a key point to pronouncing such sounds correctly.

Thank you for reading; any help is greatly appreciated! :DD

  • Question about bipolar disorder?

I have a question concerning bipolar disorder to those willing to take a moment and read.

Three years ago, my grandfather died. While I had dealt with the deaths of other close family members both before and since then, the death of my grandfather was the hardest for me to deal with. I know that traumatizing events in one's life can trigger hidden mental disorders, and I think that his death may have triggered more than one problem in my mind. However, I think that the biggest problem it caused was bipolar disorder. Every year since his death, I've gone through a period lasting usually between 3-8 months of extreme depression, in which I cut of connections with people that matter to me in my life, stop doing things I enjoy in life like my writing and music, and pick up on more harmful behaviors like self-mutilation and drug usage. When I start to phase into a more stable or possibly hypomanic mindset, I see everything in color again and I don't understand how I could have been so depressed before. The people and hobbies in my life become everything to me again, and life seems nothing short of beautiful in every way possible. While, based on the past few times I've experienced this, my happier mindset never lasts as long as my depressed mindset, it always seems to come, even if it takes a long time, long enough that I suspect it will never roll around.

I just wanted an outside opinion on this, I guess. I don't exactly have anyone I'm comfortable enough with to talk about these kinds of things, but I really wanted to explain myself somehow and ask someone else's thoughts about me. I'm just curious as to whether or not this sounds like a legit case of manic depression or perhaps something else. Any help is very much appreciated.

Thank you for reading and/or any help or insight you may be able to offer. :)

  • Who are, in your opinion, the worst movie actors of today?

What actors can you just not stand? Who do you find to be extremely overrated? Who has a terrible performance in nearly every movie he or she is in?

  • Help with a "friend"?

Okay, just for the record, I'm rarely one to ask these kinds of questions. I usually figure out things like this on my own, but I'm just curious for a little bit of advice here.

I'm going to try to sum this up as much as possible.

There's basically a girl who goes to my school who thinks we're best friends. I don't really have a friend at my school, and that includes her. I've never told her anything personal about me, and I don't plan to. I find her quite annoying, but I never tell her that, because I know she'll have an emotional breakdown. It's not like I'm the only person she talks to; she has a little circle of friends.

I'm basically asking for advice on how to better drop a hint that I'm really not her best friend, and I doubt I ever will be. I hate to be sounding mean, but it's just the truth. I've never told her anything like that, though, because I'm too afraid to hurt her feelings.

I'm completely open to all ideas, no matter how stupid they might be. And I'm sorry to sound like a wittle high school girl who has no clue about anything.

  • I need help finding some pictures on the internet... MCR fans, please help?

I was sure I had these pics on my computer, but apparently not... there are two MCR-related pictures:

The first one is an old picture of My Chemical Romance (old, as in Matt is the drummer). It shows the band members on a merry-go-round thing, and I believe that each band member's head is in a different color segment on the merry-go-round.

The second one is a black and white picture of Gerard standing on a beach, looking out at the water.

If anyone can find a link to either photo, I will be eternally greatful. Lately I've been looking for both photos, and I can't find either anywhere. Any help is very appreciated. :]]

    Thanks.

  • Question about graphic novels and/or comics?

I was wondering if anyone could recommend any graphic novels or comic books to me.

I'm a huge fan of just regular novels, but I recently gave a graphic novel a try, and I really liked it. I've been meaning to get more into that genre of book-style anyway.

So, what would you recommend to someone who's a noob to these kinds of books?

  • How to put a personal pic in the 'About Me' section?

I'm curious, is there a code or website that anyone knows of that allows you to upload a personal pic in your 'About Me' section on your MySpace profile?

A friend of mine would like to know, and I promised her that I'd look for a code... I can't find one, so I thought that maybe someone on here would know.

    Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

  • Michael Jackson vs. Fall Out Boy?

First of all, PLEASE don't get mad at me if you're a fan of Fall Out Boy who gets easily offended. I'm not trying to "bash" them, I'm just expressing my opinion, and openly asking for you to share yours as well.

A friend of mine told me that Fall Out Boy did a cover of Michael Jackson's "Beat It." I swore to dear God that I wouldn't listen to it for fear that it would ruin the original, but I decided to go ahead and YouTube it anyway.

When it comes to covers of songs, particularly songs from before the 90s, I usually either really hate the cover or really love it. Fall Out Boy's version happened to be a cover that I really hated.

  • Have you ever rescued an animal?

I have three pets... one was bought from my local Humane Society, the other rescued outside when it was just a baby, and one was bought from owners that pretty much abused him.

Has anyone found an animal or "rescued" one then kept it, or maybe gave it away to someone?

I don't wanna sound like I'm advertising, but the website below gives .6 bowls of food to a rescued animal if you click on the big "Click Here To Give--It's Free!" button. =D

I just thought I'd share that with everyone. =]

  • How many bands can you think of that have the word "head" in the band name?

There have been several times that I've realized how many bands there are with the word "head" being in the band name (Radiohead, Motorhead, Godhead, Mushroomhead, etc.). And then I found this funny website that compiled a list of 800+ "Head Bands."

It's quite interesting, if you'd like to take a look. =]

  • People in R&P... can I get your opinion about something?

How do you feel about downloading (either legally or illegally) music vs. buying it in physical form?

Rather than downloading individual songs, I'd rather just buy and listen to the whole collection of songs on an album as the artist intended.

Which do you choose when you want to get music? Why?

  • If you speak German...?

If you speak German, can ya help me with something? Does the word "frieden" mean "peace"?

This question is kind of stupid, but if you know (and can help), it would be much appreciated.

    Thanks.

  • A Beautiful Lie -- for 30 Seconds to Mars fans, please?

For any fans of 30 Seconds to Mars, have you seen their new 'A Beautiful Lie' video? I've waited MONTHS for it to come out, and I'm so happy that it was finally released. The video, to me, was well worth the wait.

If you haven't seen it yet, definitely, check it out.

  • Do you have any guilty pleasure bands?

It seems that almost everyone listens to some bands or individual singers that they would hate to admit telling others they like. Maybe they think they're sissy bands, or maybe all of their friends hate that artist.

Come on, fess up! What's some of your guilty pleasure music?
