Oakpark B&B, then take EL into city, what do you think?

Question

I found a reasonably priced B&B in Oakpark, just a few blocks from the EL (I don't remember the line).  My 15 yr. old son and I want to use it as our base to then travel into the city for museums and such, for 3 days.  We would be walking back from the El station to the Oakpark B&B, maybe after dark.  Does this sound OK?

You'd be fine in terms of walking at night from the el in Oak Park.  I'm assuming the B&B is near the Oak Park Avenue el Stop on the Green Line.  The only thing I'd say is that riding the Green Line can be rather unpleasant because it goes through the West Side of the city which isn't a great area.  It's not really unsafe, it's just an uncomfortable experience sometimes because you can feel a little unsafe. 

You may want to check out the Metra schedule. Metra is the commuter train line.  It's faster, cleaner and nicer than riding the Green line and there's a stop at Oak Park Avenue.  The only down side is that it doesn't run with the same frequency as the el and it lets you off at Union Station which is a little further away from the museums and places you're looking to go.  But I'd strongly recommend it if you're planning to be traveling at night.  

While you're in Oak Park, don't forget to check out the town.  The Frank Lloyd Wright studio is here and you can probably walk to it from where you're staying.  You can also do self-guided walking tours. It's a great little area and it's very nice this time of year.

you are a Chicagoan call it right it is either the "L" or CTA. EL is the new yorker slang for elevated line. L is the Chicago slang for elevated line another reason is because was once called the "L" as a company name.

  I'm sorry if I seemed mad I just got annoyed with EL just "L" is my preference. I feel like people are saying my uncle EL or some thing when they type or rite EL

I have never found using the Green Line unpleasant. There is no construction on the Green Line, so service is swift, inexpensive and convenient. It sounds like a great plan, and you should be safe.
The below poster is right about the "L" business, but I admit I often spell it "el." And I'm a descendant of a boatload of former "L" employees, from back before it was the Chicago Transit Authority.
