WHY should you Mormons get upset when compared to "mainstream"?
It is TOTALLY obvious to me that Mormons are NOT believing the same God of the Bible- so why should they get upset when "mainstream" bible-god believers don't want Mormons to place themselves in the same category? Cause they aren't!
Milton R. Hunter, a member of Mormonism's First Council of the Seventy, wrote in The Gospel Through the Ages, p 104:
"Mormon prophets have continuously taught the sublime truth that God the Eternal Father was once a mortal man who passed through a school of earth life similar to that through which we are now passing. He became God - an exalted being - through obedience to the same eternal Gospel truths that we are given opportunity today to obey."
Mormons- the God in the Bible wasn't EVER mortal- He just "IS" and always WAS... God. So the Mormon heavenly father isn't the same one as Jehovah, obviously.
I was raised a Catholic! And even if I don't go to church anymore- I sure wouldn't believe in some "new-age" God who was once mortal and "ascended " to godhood- that is what the New Agers teach- we all are/can be gods! If I am going to have a God- its going to be the Biblical one- just IS god- never was a mortal- all-powerful..... GOD.

Although Mormonism claims to reject trinitarianism, Mormons believe that Jehovah is another name for Jesus (the Son). Ironically, the Scriptures rather obviously teach that Jehovah is the personal name of the Father.
This is obviously a fundamentally different theology than the other great nontrinitarian Christian religion, Jehovah's Witnesses. Jehovah's Witnesses believe the Bible to teach that there are several references to Jesus in the so-called "Old Testament" which indicate that he is distinct from the "God" or "Jehovah" of the so-called "Old Testament". It is not enough to simply assert that a doctrine is true, and so Jehovah's Witnesses reason from the Scriptures on the matter...
It seems rather obvious that the apostle Luke at Acts 4:25-27 quotes from Psalms 2:1,2. Although these passages are part of the Christian and Hebrew Scriptures respectively, BOTH passages make it plain that there is an "anointed one" who is distinct from God. The Psalm plains calls that God by the name "Jehovah" (explicitly using the Tetragrammaton) and Acts plainly calls the anointed one by the name "Jesus".
(Psalm 2:1,2) [David wrote] Why have the nations been in tumult and the national groups themselves kept muttering an empty thing? 2 The kings of earth take their stand And high officials themselves have massed together as one against Jehovah and against his anointed one
(Acts 4:24-27) [Peter, John, and fellow Christians] with one accord raised their voices to God and said: “Sovereign Lord, you are the One who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all the things in them, 25 and who through holy spirit said by the mouth of our forefather David, your servant, ‘Why did nations become tumultuous and peoples meditate upon empty things? 26 The kings of the earth took their stand and the rulers massed together as one against Jehovah and against his anointed one.’ 27 Even so, both Herod and Pontius Pilate with men of nations and with peoples of Israel were in actuality gathered together in this city against your holy servant Jesus
Similarly, the apostle Paul at 1 Cor 2:16 and Rom 11:33,34 paraphrases Isaiah 40:13. Note that Isaiah explicitly uses the name "Jehovah" (the Hebrew Tetragrammaton), and 1 Corinthians plainly CONTRASTS the mind of Jehovah with the mind of Christ Jesus.
.. ..(1 Corinthians 2:16) For “who has come to know the mind of Jehovah, that he may instruct him?” But we do have the mind of Christ.
.. ..(Romans 11:33-34) O the depth of God’s riches and wisdom and knowledge! How unsearchable his judgments are and past tracing out his ways are! 34 For “who has come to know Jehovah’s mind, or who has become his counselor?”
.. ..(Isaiah 40:13) Who has taken the proportions of the spirit of Jehovah, and who as his man of counsel can make him know anything?

Yes, it is a totally different relationship with the Lord and Jesus Christ! I have been on both sides of the fence and I really did not feel true love for me as a child of God within the mormon church.
The temple ceremonies are the same way...Cold and distant!
the movie is horrible! Strange outfits, handshakes, a new name....
But I did try for years and years to make sence of the whole religion. I prayed and prayed...but did not get anyhere until I dropped the mormon church for mainstream christianity!

What is mainstream nowadays? There are so many different beliefs about being Christian. One church can believe one thing but then I go to the same church but on the other street and it's all completely different.
Everyone views are different. So really there is no mainstream christian. And we are not upset.....just annoyed.
What scripture do you have that says God isn't mortal?

Even a Modern Mormon prophet.
Said
" I do not believe in the Jesus of the bible. but, the Jesus Joseph smith believed in.
Not to mention many if not all historical claims of the Mormon bible has been proved incorrect. However all historical claims of the bible have been identified to be accurate. This does not however prove God exists. Only that the historical mandate is true.
Many if not most historians agree in terms of the historicity of the bible and the existence of Jesus.
Also the Mormon bible speaks of a language called " reformed Egyptian. which " reformed Egyptian is a made up language ( It don't exist) Also the Mormon bible claims that a temple exactly like the Solomon temple was built here in the America's and that they follow all the laws of the OT book. However building a temple anywhere but where the mount is today is illegal an d forbidden in the OT. I believe it is Jerusalem which is where the location is. But, since the destruction of the 2nd temple the temple has not been rebuilt.

It's not about being grouped with the mainstream. It's about being considered Christian. Most Mormons believe that if you believe that Christ is the savior of the world, then you are a Christian. Non-mormons say that unless you believe in my particular interpretation of who Christ is, you are not a Christian. To say that we aren't Christian sends a very wrong message. We believe in the Jesus Christ of the bible. We believe that Christ is the savior of the world. We just have a different interpretation of His life and His role than mainstream Christianity. I dont think Mormons want to be grouped in the same mainstream Christian category, but we do want to be considered to be Christians.

This is what you say we believe. What we say we believe is a little different.
D&C 20:17 By these things we know that there is a God in heaven, who is infinite and eternal, from everlasting to everlasting the same unchangeable God, the framer of heaven and earth, and all things which are in them;

nicely, for one ingredient you're basing your data on an imprecise college survey. then you definately proceed on along with your guy or woman journey for greater data, and yet, you have no longer any thought that Judaism is like Christianity in any different case - it too has sub-instruments of its greater group. Like Christianity is caught alongside with a variety of communities that don't carry to unique teachings, same cope with the Jews. you may particularly be seen a Catholic or a Jew, and yet have self belief in no god in any respect. the two Christianity and Judaism are the two a faith and an ethnic group. (i've got self belief an analogous of different religious communities, yet i don't be responsive to sufficient of the others to declare for helpful.) It enables plenty to be responsive to which you're conversing of - the ethnic group or the God-ideals. inspect what proportion on right here declare to be the two a member of a non secular group and an atheist. Open your eyes to what you're particularly experiencing.

We don't want to be "like" everyone else but we do get frustrated when we are not called Christian. I could care less that we don't conform to mainstream Christianity but you have no right to label me as non-Christian.

2. of, pertaining to, believing in, or belonging to the religion based on the teachings of Jesus Christ:
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. Note the name in the middle.
We believe in Jesus Christ and follow His teachings. We're Christian, end of story.
Any why do you get the market on the description of a Christian anywyay? Because your pastor said so? I don't think so.
