Will spaying female cat make her nicer?

I have a 1 year old female cat, whom we have had since she was a kitten. She is strictly an indoor cat. However, she is absolutely the most evil cat ever! She constantly attacks us and scratches and nips. We have shown her nothing but love and she has plenty of toys and scratch posts. It has gotten to the point where she is scarring mine and my daughters arms. I dont want to let her go, but my daughter is my first priority. Will spaying her make her less evil???!!! What is her problem?

It may help to spay her, it sometimes calms them down - I doubt it would make it worse. It is worth it - and not just for the obvious reasons, not spaying a female cat can lead to uterine and mammory cancers.

Whenever she scratches or nips, spray her with water.. keep the water bottles on hand all the time. And when she is playing nicely with her toys reward her with a treat.

If it does not calm down after you have her spayed, or after consistently trying the water and reward method - or others in these responses (one good whap may actually help in this case - she needs to know it is wrong) - take her to the vet and speak to the vet about whether it could be neurological. Prescriptions drugs may work for her. Otherwise you should try to find a home that can safely have her.

Spaying is better for her no matter what. Sometimes it could be good for her behavior, too.

You can't know if she's agressive from her hormones or because of the way she was treated by someone in you home or earlier in her life. She may just be a loner. Some cats want you to leave them alone all the time, or only want you to touch them when they invite you to.

Fix her anyway for her own sake!

You should definitely spay her. While at the vet discuss the personality issues that you are having with her. They actually provide cats with Prozac in some cases. However, I would wait until 1.5 yrs for any kind of drug treatment. My cat was nuts until that age and is now a real sweety. Stay in there. It will get better.

Also, if you are worried for your daughter, I would make sure that she can't come into contact with your cat.

She should be spayed, it probably won't change her behavior too much, but it is a lot heathier for her in the long run. I think that if you discipline her with a squirt bottle ot an aluminum can with pennies in it she might not scratch anymore but it will get worse before it gets better, no pain no gain. With the can just shake it they hate the noise.

I believe if you spay her she will calm down some.

Never the less let me give you a tip - when the cat bites, scratches, or does something you don't approve of you need to spray her face whit water and firmly remove her and say a firm NO. "give her a toy instead and encourage her to bite it"

This technique helped whit mine. you can't harm her because is only water and hopefully she will get the hint that that kind of behavior is not allowed and she is only supposed bite and scratch her toys.

Have a spray bottle full of water near you all the time so is easy to discipline her.

Yes, definately spay her... it's also much better for the cats health.

My cat was the same way before we spayed her.. she was pretty mean, and nuts!.. now she is the sweetest cat ever... and she also can't reproduce and add to the extreme over population of cats.

usually it helps to spay any cat male or female..sounds like you have a cat with a problem..occasionally you get a cat who plays too keep and always uses her claws..i have scars on my arms from cats i had years ago who played very rough with me..any time a cat claws you ..you should tell it bad..no..

even tho they say dont hit them.. sometimes a smack with a rolled up newpaper when they are bad will do the trick..it may take time tho...if this cat cant be settled down and behave you should try to find it another home.

    spay her.

her attitude might be from going into heat and not getting any. she smells the toms out side and they smell her. you can also discuss the problem with the vet, before spaying, as she could be in pain.

other then that, she just might have a bad personality and all you can do is avoid her.

iam sorry . but your cat has a attuide problem. take that cat and have it put to sleep. if its scaring your arms and your daughters. geez. there are other cats. more laid back. at this time in the game. its not likely that its going to help.....
