Wouldnt you think with the fuel efficent cars nowadays, and hybrids, and new technology that......?
gas prices would be going down? Less consumption over 20 years ago? I cant wait till we never have to use oil again. Then we can watch the people that used to make billions, not make a dime.

It's too soon to see a difference. There are not enough of these cars running yet to make an impact. Be patient. It's coming.

Well 20 years ago, there were a lot less cars on the road. Just think, with excellant healthcare, people are living longer and having more children than 20 years ago. So, with more and more people alive and less dying, they have to drive something! Then there are other countries who may not use hybrids or such stuff like that.
Plus, hybrids and fuel efficient cars havent been around long enough to make a difference. Plus, there are people who still drive older cars that are not as fuel efficient (plus the older it gets and if it isnt taken care of - the more gas it may consume). Now if they begin mass producing hybrids at affordable rates (and also sporty/fancy cars for richer people) and replacing the regular cars... then we will see some progress. But that will take a few more decades for a complete hybrid/electric takeover.
Not to mention the trains, semi-trucks, factories, and home use that use oil/gas.

right here's a shorter answer: Hybrids would properly be compatiable with biofuels or petroleum fuels and are extra helpful, exceedingly in case you force short distances. Pay very close interest to whilst fashions come out, when you consider that there are substantial tax reward for paying for new sort hybrids, yet those disappear as quickly as they have offered some sort of a given sort. in case you could no longer get a tax wreck, it will take a at an identical time as so which you will recoup the extra value of a hybrid. evaluate a diesel. I force a 2006 Jetta TDI, can use biodiesel as much as i pick and get an person-friendly of 45MPG in primairly city utilising, fifty 5 on longer journeys and have quite a few situations gotten sixty 5 on my old go backward and forward. Any which way, get a mild automobile with a small engine.

1. more fuel efficient vehicles doesn't mean less total fuel used. there are also more people driving, more people living farther away and commuting, etc. i haven't done any research to confirm or refute your claim, though
2. most of the technology you speak of is too new to be having a significant impact yet
3. how do they keep making their billions, even if total fuel consumption goes down? by raising their prices
4. you seem like the kind of person who's going to complain about the price of whatever replaces gasoline. now, i know what some of you are thinking: "What about solar panels and windmills for electric cars?" well, unless you plan on building them yourself, you still have to pay somebody, and higher demand means higher prices. there's no such thing as free energy

If we ever completely replace oil/gasoline (don't bet on that happening in your lifetime), the next energy kings would make billions, or dare we say it... trillions.
If a handful of companies produce a product that the world literally runs on, why is it so bad to make a large profit. That's the beauty of a free market. Whoever holds the worlds most powerful resource, holds the key to wealth.
I'm sick and tired of people attacking the oil companies, labeling them as "evil" and "demonic". They are running a business and it is OK for them to make a profit.
