What are the main problems and injustices you see for women in non-Western countries ?
I saw amongst responses to an earlier question that some men said that feminism was undesirable and shouldn't spread to other countries.
Do these people not see any problems for women in non-Western countries ? If they see problems for women, how do they think they are going to be solved and by whom.
Thanks all for responses so far.
GunF - you don't see any reason for women in non-Western countries to protest? You don't see any problems for them ?
Gazz and GunF - You're saying that you don't see any injustice occuring to non-Western women? Well if you two can't see anything that should change for women in other countries, then it seems clear to me why we need feminism - because those women will never have anything change for them without a womens rights movement.
I wish I could give the 10 to each of a few answers. I see I shouldn't have asked a double bunger because responses were excellent to one half or another.
Thanks everyone for your answers.
To the people who don't care about womens rights beyond your own borders - have you never heard of organizations like Amnesty International? Would you feel the same if we were discussing human rights for men ?
Also: I need to correct myself. I see on a link provided by another poster a day or two ago, where a female activist in a Muslim dominant country was saying that feminism isn't spreading from the West but has emerged on its own as a human rights concern. That's good to know.

Lack of ability to work, particularly if they are widows, they are forced to beg or turn to prostitution.
Lack of access to education.
A lack of health care, because male doctors are not allowed to examine female patients and women are not allowed to become/practice as doctors.
Punishment or death for adultery or "promiscuity."
Being required to take a male relative with them before they go out.
No ability to drive.
Domestic abuse/violence with no recourse, not even from family members, who view talking about such things as bringing dishonor to the family.

I don't know where some of these posters live, but where I am from (western country) the workplace is loaded with female CEOs. Some of the statements on here, I have to say, are falsehoods and need to be addressed. Many many women, at least where I come from, are in very high management positions and they take place in droves. I'd suggest, maybe, doing some research on the topic?? Women in marketing positions, for example, at the executive level make well over $100K per year. I don't know where the problem lies? Women are getting their fair share, and more so. Thus, they are ever more so ending up as the breadwinners of the family, single mothers/CEOs alike. I am pretty pleased with how far women have come, but that didn't arrive without a lot of the downsides, either, e.g. housing market went through the roof courtesy of the housewife having to go into the workforce to support skyrocketing home prices. I love to stay home full time to raise my third child and, thankfully, am able to do so, in my current situation. However, it wasn't always th

Rape and murder. Bottom-line. Darfur, for example has been called the "first genocide of the twenty-first century". Trust me, there will be many more before we finally destroy ourselves.
What can we do about it? Not much considering we (being westerners) had a big part in creating the problem in the first place.
Consider this, prior to 1877 or so, Lakota tribes were considered the most dominant and thriving tribe of Natives in North America. Then, came Little Big Horn, Wounded Knee and Richard Henry Pratt.
Pratt tried to assimilate the Lakota into a lifestyle of simple farmers, didn't really work out. Now, Shannon county South Dakota (where they currently dwell) is one of the most poverty-ridden counties in the nation.
I am pretty sure that the descendants of those once properous people wake up every day and say, "thanks Westerners for showing us the way."
We destroy everything we touch.

You know, it's really easy to criticize other cultures that don't resemble your own. Please leave it to those countries to decide what "injustices" they are suffering.
To put it in perspective, a lot of "non-Western" countries would consider pornography as an injustice to women, yet its a massive industry here.
Stop worrying about stuff that isn't your business. The world isn't yours to save.

Seeing what feminism have done in the West and how it favor women and negatively affecting men's rights, I really hope that it doesn't spread to other countries..
EDIT: *shrug* I could care less what happen to them..
The truth is that, everyone pretty much suffer equally in poor countries; like in some countries young boys are being force to go war with an AK-A7 in their hand. But to feminist women are the only victim; as a result, they will fight for laws that favor women but discriminated against men like they did in the West.

Don't take them seriously. The slightest mention of feminism causes them to react in a very Pavlovian way.
The main problem I see is religious fundamentalism. I have no problem with cultural sensitivity, but when certain aspects of a culture violate basic human rights, it's time to speak out against them.

I've heard some countries burn off the young girls' clitorises. That is the most horrible thing I've ever heard.
