Why would someone send a facebook friend request to someone they don't know?
I confess I have no idea why someone would invite me as a friend when they don't know me. I'm not taking the title "friend" too literally, mind you, but it still seems like something you'd reserve for people you actually know, whether in person or online. It's like the roommates I had in college who wanted to see some photos I had, even though they didn't know anyone in them. Makes no sense to me. I accept very, very few friend requests. I've just had 2 blind ones, one from a friend of my brother's, and one now from a TOTAL stranger. This seems to be commonplace for a lot of users, but I ask again...
What reason would someone have for sending such a request?
It was a simple question. After the explanation, it was just a simple question. This just raises another question, why do people respond to questions when they don't really have any answers? Of course it's no big deal, I merely wanted to get some insight into why anyone would even want a facebook friend that they don't even know. It's hard enough to keep up with the ones you do know.

they think you're hot
or
they want more friends to make them look more popular
also could be because they're lonely & want to meet & chat to new ppl or a very small chance it's because they have u mistaken from some1 else.
I get friend requests constantly from total strangers simply because ppl think I'm hot! Well that's what they tell me!

Yeah I get requests like that all the time, but I usually ignore them because I don't like to add people I don't know, I don't want them to look at my profile. Maybe there psycho freaks or something. I only add people I know.

To give them the benefit of the doubt, they might have confused you with someone they know/used to know, who has the same name as you.
or
they are desperate to increase their friend count
or
they are scam artists hoping to get your personal details.
I had a couple of people I never met request friendship with me because we do the same style of karate and joined the same Facebook group. I didn't accept but one of my karate friends did and she ended up meeting one of them. She is now she is building a very expansive international network and karate contacts!

Well, the person that adds you might want to get to know you, or they heard about you?
