Why do you think we all have different beliefs regarding god, religion, the afterlife, etc.?
You can look at this on the grand scale, of why some of us are Christian, some are atheist, Pagan, Buddhist, agnostic, Muslim, Jewish, etc.
Or you can look at this on a smaller scale, which is where I am, about how even in our own religious affiliations we have differences of opinion on certain topics. All Christians don't believe the same thing about everything, even though they might use the same Bible. All atheists don't agree on issues like spirituality.
Thoughts please? Thank you in advance for your answers

because our egos play tricks on us,by making us believe the ilusion of the 3rd dimention
I will let no man take my crown of my inner attunement with my higher Being. And especially, I will not let the enemy within, my own ego, take that crown of my inner attunement. Because I have longed all of my life to Be who I am, to bring my gift to this world, the gift that will transform the world. And yet I cannot find that gift outside myself. I must find it within—in my higher self. And thus, I will look beyond the outer programming and the inner programming of the ego. And I will say, "Here I am Lord, send me. I will go and bring a gift that will help awaken this world to your reality and your love."

The grand scale being that different regions began migrating and religions clashing. Also the split of the Christian denominations on whether who was right and who was wrong.
Smaller scale, we are all different. Everyone perceives things differently, even thoughts, scripture and what not.
If we all had collective agreement about everything, we'd be in a very boring place.

Same reason we have diverse views on anything from ethics to what we like and dislike etc. We are all individuals with individual perspectives. Variation in perspectives occur from genetic and social differences.
So in one area everyone will agree on a lot but still vary and over greater degrees of geographical space, variations will differ even more. There's a common thread of human traits in it all but in each different area and in each different individual, these traits result in a different result.
Of course, with globalisation the lines are becoming much less defined than they were originally, which is interesting.

Because belief in not necessarily based on fact. If it was the conclusions would tend to converge towards a commonality as knowledge increased. However, religious belief is based on interpretation what people think to be real and so it diverges in accordance with the individual interpretations.
If anything, this is evidence that there is not a universal deity.

For me so far, heaven and hell cannot exists, here's why:
If I went to heaven (meeting the requirements) it would mean eternal happiness to me, however my happiness involves certain people not being around. If said person also meets the requirements and goes to heaven then I will not be truly happy. Therefore heaven wouldn't be the place I'd aspire to be in an afterlife.
As in Hell (the place were I would be tortured for all eternety), were I a sadomasochist, the place would be ideal. Thus the concept of 'suffering' would be moot.

Hell and heaven are two facts. It is also true that if we will follow the path described by God we will go to heaven and to hell otherwise. Now this is another question that what will happen in heaven or hell, personally I think it is enough to say that in heaven we will in peace and in hell we will in trouble. As far as souls are concerned then I have developed my own ideology that this world is a testing platform where the souls are sent to test. One who performs well here will be kept with God in heaven the actual place for souls and those who will not perform well will sent to a bin that is called hell.

We're all a product of so many factors--genetics, family dynamics, good/bad experiences, education, exposure to cultural/social groups, etc. I believe that if there is a God, all religions that honor life and freedom are equally legitimate ways to seek to know that God. People choose the one that fits best with who they are--because the way that we see God is largely a product of our own personal "filters" on how we see the world at large.

We have differing views too about whether 2 plus 2 equals 4. Ever talked to a theoretical Mathmetician?

Culture is a person's biggest influence regarding moral principles, religiouos beliefs, etc. So, a person born in Tibet is more likely to be Buddhist than Catholic and a person born into a big Catholic family in Boston is more likely to be Catholic than Buddhist.
In my opinion, a religion needs a central authority to interprete Scripture and define doctrine. Otherwise, there will be chaos and division. For this reason (among many others, e.g. the Sacraments, Mary, etc.), I am Catholic.

Because death is the final unknown. None of us know and humans, by nature, are a curious species. We always have a theory and it's driving us crazy that we can't know this one. :)
