Is a camcorder video of neighbor spanking their kid valid evidence for CPS ?

Depends on if they are spanking on the butt or "beating" the child. Most states allow parents so spank a child on the rear end as long as they do not leave bruises.

Depends on whether the spanking was abusive or not. There is a difference and even CPS will know whether it was discipline or abuse. If you take it to CPS and the parents are notified, you could be sued for invasion of privacy. If the child is in no real danger and you just don't agree with spanking then I suggest you cool it with the camcorder; you could get into a lot of trouble over that.

What is with people and CPS. Leave other people alone, and mind your own business. I can't count how many people get mad over a misbehaved child, but when the parent tries to even attempt to do something about it you want to get the kid taken away. This needs to stop! CPS is for kids who are so badly abused they will die if something is not done. Not because the kid pushed the parent to far and got there butt smacked. For some reason you may not realize what happens to a kids once he is taken away. They are bounced from foster home to foster home, never having more then a few bags of clothes. Most foster parents only are parents for the money, so the kid never get the love or attention they need, and in some cases continue to get abused. Once they turn 18 they are kicked out of the system and have to fend for them selfs. They are never allowed contact with there birth parents or any family for that matter and they are never in a school long enough to make friends. Before turning ANY one in please ask your self "What is worse, a spanking or life in the system?"

Perhaps Grandma should spend time baking cookies and not spying on neighbours and get yourself a hobby or actually report real crimes! Too many people freak about a spank, meanwhile the kid who's getting shoved in a closet all day, unfed etc goes unnoticed b/c the parent has conditioned that child to be quiet.

Its vaid evidence of parenting. Its not however valid evidence of abuse. Every state makes allowances for spanking a child. Unless the are using a foreign object or beating the child it isnt gonna be taken seriously. And it shouldnt. Every parent has the right to discipline their child as they see fit (within the boundaries of the law) and spanking is allowed within the law wether everyone agrees or not.

Unless you see that it is actually uncontrolled anger on the parents part and they are seriously abusing the child you should mind your own business. I have a two year old who almost ran out onto a very busy road yesterday. You can bet your butt that I spanked her!! What should I have done just told her no?!?! In some situations it is necessary, just because you don't agree, it is still not your situation!

Just a serious question, I may sound like an idiot, but is it illegal to spank our children in our own homes...if its just a couple swats to the butt with a bare hand? I am not talking like rearing the hand back, but a swat.

No...and there is nothing at all wrong with spanking your children however there is a difference between spanking and abuse. If you love your children you will discipline them and drive the rebellion far from their heart. The bible teaches that if you love your children you will spank them with a rod of correction. If you don't discipline your children they will grow up to be rebels and will have no respect for you or anyone else. I spank my children not because I enjoy it, in fact it breaks my heart to spank them but I know it is for there own good and one day they will understand.

i say no or maybe. Parents are allowed to spank their children still. If its over the top like she's trying to hurt the child then yes but spanking is still allowed.

Spanking is an accepted form of discipline. While you may not agree with it, it isn't abuse.

However, if its goes beyond normal spanking to something that causes the child injury, then yes.
