Define "hard-working white men and women," and tell me why Obama cannot gain their support.?

This is just my opinion. I live in the rust belt. People here were accustomed to working hard without needing further schooling and being able to provide for their families. The jobs and factories were sent over seas. The farmers were no longer able to make money because huge farms and big companies took that over. The small family businesses have been squashed by Walmart who wanted to bring cheap products from China to rural Americans. We sit with our empty stores and factories and do not want to leave our families and move. He may not get a great deal of support for some reasons I can think of. People in our rural areas do not know blacks, Asians and few Hispanics. They me wary. Also, Obama gets support from the highly educated. Most in the rural community have learned on the farms, hunting, and in factories. He may seem to have to much of an elitist air about him, because he is obviously so educated. In my immediate family we are all Obama fans, but my cousins do not believe he can win, because he is too young or black. I am just trying to help you understand what is happening out here in the rust belt.

People are realizing that the change Obama means is the change that will be good for Obama and that's about it. People are beginning to be able to see right through him.

Many hard working men and women (of any race including white) are very well educated, and therefore are too smart to vote for Obama.

To imply that hard-working people are poor or at most, middle class, which is what is being implied here, is many times not true, so therefore, it is often very difficult to accurately define them, which is probably very fortunate. Since, if they could be defined, then they would most certainly be at the mercy of those who define them...

Cracker Jack where did you get the number 37% from? 37% of African Americans are not on welfare son, stop playing. As a matter of fact there are more whites on welfare than blacks, but they don't air that on tv too often. How many times have you seen incest and spousal abuse and violence in the trailer parks as opposed to the projects? Answer that question son. There is no difference but Hillary knows that race is a big issue with some whites and the only way to stir that pot is to divide.

I'm a hard-working white woman. I am very educated. Obama can't gain my support because he hasn't said a single thing of substance the whole campaign. Change is not a strategy. Great, we're going to change things. Change WHAT into WHAT? I can't believe people fall for rhetoric and don't demand more than that from candidates. It's pathetic. Change for the sake of change always backfires, if you're going to change something you need to have a purpose and direction in mind, and it's obvious that Obama's sole purpose and direction is to be the first black man in the White House. I don't think even HE knows what he's going to do once he gets there. (Thank goodness I don't think we'll have to worry about that given the current division in the Democratic party, from another question I asked on here it sounds like 80% of the Clinton supporters are either going to vote for McCain or write Clinton's name in, essentially handing McCain the election.)

because hard working people work hard to get what they have and where they are in life. they resent someone that comes in from nowhere with no background and jumps right into management. They resent the wink their way and the pat on the back saying, "you all have short term memory and when it comes to november will forget all this and vote for me as your nominated democrat anyway"

thats what obama said today. they have short term memory and will group to him in november, he went further to say that having hillary win those states is a good thing as that helps the democratic party in november.

Because hard working Americans are not as dumb and "uneducated" as Obama hopes they are. The majority may not be college educated but they're smart enough to recognize a liar when they see one.

People that want to be able to keep MOST of their hard earned paychecks, instead of having it TAKEN from them by the Socialist / Communist / Liberal Democrats for their "Government Hand-Out Programs".

Democrats generally believe in heavy fines for honest work, while rewarding sloth and indulgence.

Do YOU think that people should be able to do absolutely nothing productive and get government hand-outs for sloth and indulgence - healthcare, tobacco, alcohol, drugs, STDs, etc. ??

Hard working white men and women will support Obama because he too is a hard working person. Hard working white people are usually people, in my mind who 'work hard' doing 'hand's on every day jobs' which involve an intergration to some degree with other ethnics groups.

The issue in your question seems to relate to social classes and race.

The people who will not support Obama are the 'not so hard working people of America'. This crosses over two social groups. The white upper class workers who have that 'old school boy' mentality who want to keep power within their social class of wealth and exclusivity.. and secondly the 'not so hard working people' who are the 'red neck' type who are not educated and have no understanding that a black person could ever run the country properly.

So to round off my 'late night ramble': hard working white men and women are people who have 'worked hard' to get where they are, buy their house, obtain that social status and to them Obama symbolises the recognition of their hard work. His policies are aimed at them and supporting them. He has their support.

Because when you shake Obamas hand they are soft and feminine like a girl. He has never held a real job in his entire life. He doesn't fit with the Hard Working Man or Woman

Apparently, anyone who is white and votes for Obama is lazy. I'm kind of tired of the racist campaigning that supposedly only happens in the Republican party.
