a test has 5 true false questions and 8 multiple choice questions containing 4 answers each. how many ways can a student answer without leaving one blank?

I have not had statistics, but I think it is 2,091,152. That is
2^5 * 4^8.
That seems huge, but aptly so. Think about 2 multiple choice questions with 4 choices. Here are the possibilities:
AA
AB
AC
AD
BA
BB
BC
BD
CA
CB
CC
CD
DA
DB
DC
DD
That's 16 (4*4, or 4^2) possibilities for just two multiple choice. It increases exponentially from there.

see why? if not write down all the possible combinations of answers, starting like this:
ttttt (all 5 t/f are true)
aaaaaaaa (all 8 are answer a)
ttttt
bbbbbbbb
ttttt
ccccccc
and so forth, varying only one of the 13 digits for each permutation until you get them all
