Convince me why I shouldn't vote for McCain...?

Here is the catch: Use actual arguments and justify them.

I really don't want to hear that he is old, or he has a terrible temper, or he's a doodie head, or that he committed war crimes, or that he is simply going to be four more years of Bush...These are merely lies or unfair slanders and it doesn't prove anything to me. I want to hear some real intelligent reasons with some real intelligent justifications.

I mean pretend I am an intelligent and rational human being and I am trying to decide who to vote for. I don't respond well to smears, but legitimate arguments can sway me to agree with your point of view. So convince me...

Update:

I asked the same question about Obama, and it is amazing how people can actually be civil when asked to be. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Ar.jb...

Update 2:

Thanks everyone, I just wanted to see if people Y!A has it in them to dig deep within themselves and come up with pertinent arguments, as opposed to this mudslinging that I have been so used to seeing on here. It has been a lot easier to see the other sides point of view when it is presented in a palatable and intelligent manner.

Clinton has better policies. If he is running against Baracka then you should vote McCain. He is a patriotic American who is proud of his country and his wife has always been proud to be American.

Wow, I am really suprised by the ignorance of so many people who have replied to your question. The economy is so bad? How about the lowest unemployment rate EVER. Yeah prices are going up and the dollar is weak, but that is an economy for you. Up and down. Thats sort of what they do. If these people were smart they would realize that when they economy is down you INVEST. Everyone complains about gas prices. Dont you all know that we have just as much oil as the Saudis. Our problem? Stupid liberals and tree huggers who wont allow us to drill. If we were allowed to tap into our own recourses you might would see good 2 dollar a gallon gas again. If you really want cheap gas tell your rep. and senators to drill.

Oh yes the Bush tax cuts are only for the rich. That is the most ignorant rhetoric bull crap I have ever heard. You people who say that are either too young to have ever paid a cent of taxes or you are just repeating something you heard on tv before. The top 50 percent income earners pay 98 percent of the taxes. The top 1 percent pay 26 percent of all taxes. Not to mention that big child tax credit you all got was because of Bush's tax cuts.

Now to your question. WHy shouldnt you vote for McCain. 1. He is all for amnesty 2. he is a liberal in conservative clothing 3. He thinks he is teddy roosevelt (Big stick) will that work in todays world? 4. His only plan for Iraq is to stay in Iraq (I'm not against the war, but just staying in Iraq is what Bush has been doing for five years. Will another five years work or should we have an actual plan?). 5. He says he is for tax cuts but he refused to say he wouldnt raise taxes in the beginning (someone must have told him conservatives didnt like that)

Really though what is the alternative? Obama? The morality of this country is already in the tank. I guess whith him in office we will have drive thru abortions and gay marriages. Best thing to do is to vote for McCain. At least with him in office you will have a republican president and a democrate legislative branch. So nothing will probably get done for four years, but then again McCain leans left so he will probably pander to them anyway. So were all screwed.

    Hypocrisy:

    - Opposed Bush tax cuts as irresponsible and then changed position

    - Opposed the use of torture but then backed several measures that weakened the definition of torture and made it easier

    - Co-sponsored the McCain-Kennedy immigration reform bill and then turned around and said he would vote against his own bill

    - Called Falwell and Robertson agents of intolerance and then turned around, kissed and made up, and now actively courts the likes of Hagee and Parsley. Once said he would never visit Bob Jones university, then went and visited it.

    - Claims that Obama will be soft on Hamas and negotiate with terrorists. Two years ago he said we would have to negotiate with them as the elected leaders of the Palestinians.

-Close examination of his record reveals he is not squeaky clean, has many shady dealings with associates

-Gas tax idea is just bad policy, opposed by all serious economists

-Claims to want to extend Bush tax cuts and be a deficit hawk, but his pet idea of eliminating earmarks eliminates only $18 billion from the Federal budget, while extending the tax cuts (or adding new ones) will decrease revenues dramatically (eliminating AMT alone will cost over $100 billion).

I could go on, but that is enough for one session.

    Either you believe:

(1)McCain once was a moderate Republican who underwent a conversion to the far-right and has really changed his view on many, many substantive policy issues, (a "flip-flopper" if you will)

    OR

(2)McCain is still a moderate Republican who is just pandering and outright lying about what he believes in in order to get elected.

Take your pick, neither one seems like a very good candidate, but what do I know, I'm a liberal. If you want a more conservative president who officially supports all the same policies of the Bush adminsitration, I can't supply a logical reason why you wouldn't vote for McCain.

I won't use smears on you or McCain. But here is what will happen if McCain gets in office. The economy will get worse. The rich will get even richer as the middle class (probably like you and me) will start to make our way down to the poor class. Gas prices unchecked will likely go up $5.00 and most likely beyond. Will we be concentrating on bringing stability to Iraq, which is a noble thing. However, there is a limit to how much and how long we should do this. McCain has no real plan or strategy except to just stay in Iraq. I don't know about you, but don't you want some answers or a strategy here by now after 5+ years? Face it, we haven't got one so we could be pouring all these resources for no real reason than just to stay. I don't want my quality of life or my family's to decrease just because a minority of people want to continue this war.

First of all the man is a Republican and Republicans will always help the rich get richer on the backs of the poor. If you have the chance to vote for Hillary Clinton do so. But if Obama is the nominee, then vote for McCain. Because even though he is a Republican, he is a moderate one. The real Republicans hate him and think he is too liberal. So having him as President will not be the same as having Bush. THEN you must vote for all the rest of Congress by choosing all of the Democrats. In that way you will help yourself and your family to: have health care, end the war without giving over the country, improve the economy, help people keep their homes and keep the illegals out. Then after 4 years of McCain, Hillary Clinton will rise again and then you can vote for her. Then she will finish the job that the Democratic Congress started. And we will all live happily ever after.

You will vote for McCain. You've already decided to vote for McCain, or you would not have challenged us to provide arguments for voting against him. You also put sanctions on what we can say. I might believe his age is a factor; he couldn't possible understand my dilemmas, because of the major age gap. His generation didn't have to put up with what my generation does--he couldn't possibly relate to my situation.

Your question is flawed. I couldn't possibly provide proof to you. I don't know you. You might be an oil tycoon with more money than I've ever seen in my life, or what not. You might be a republican w/ certain pre-established views on how society works. I have no clue what you are or how you think. Vote for McCain--you were going to do so anyway. I believe it's in your nature to devise flawed plans and irrational demands on a people whom you barely know.

I'm not a McCain supporter but I can tell you what I know.

McCain said that he would appoint conservative judges to over turn Rove V's Wade.

He said that we would be out of Iraq in five years (doesn't say how he would do it)

    He is for NAFTA

He said that he wants illegals to be able to do day passes so they can work.

He said He voted against the Equal pay for women because it wasn't fair to women ( I don't understand that one)

He said that he was for OIL, COAL and Nuclear power (not interested in wind or solar power)

He voted against the Vet's college fund (why I don't know--but the Blue dogs said it cost to much money)

His Economy package is like Bush's just a little different.

He is for Bush's cuts in Medicare for the older people. (Said to much waste in the program)

He is for Bush cuts to SSI--Well cut out 57 million people off of SS. Dates 1950-1957

He said he was going to help the poor (doesn't say how he would do it)

He will change things at the VA Hospital

Will Bomb Iran if given the chance. (Bomb, bomb, bomb Iran)

You can look up "Christians United for Israel" for that one.

Has a health care plan much like it is now, but he will tell the insurance companies to allow uninsured to buy health care with out any caps on what insurance companies can charge.

I would say go to his site and read it for your self.

Because McCain is going to continue the war in Iraq until we achieve 'victory,' whatever that is. He said yesterday that he envisions us still having troops in Iraq in 2013. In the past 4 years, over 4000 US soldiers have died in Iraq, and tens of thousands more have been maimed and crippled for life.

If you vote for McCain, you are voting for thousands more dead, and tens of thousands more maimed.

McCain has promised to extend the Bush tax cuts and expand them. The result of the current tax cuts combined with the war has pushed our nation to nearly $10 trillion in debt. McCain's plan of continued tax cuts and continued war spending will push that number higher, perhaps as high as $15 trillion, by 2012. How much debt do you want to lay on the backs of our children and grandchildren? How many hundred of billions of dollars do you want to throw away each year just paying the interest on the debt?

Those are my top 2 reason. I have more, lots more, but if these two alone aren't enough to convince you, I don't think the rest would help.

Pretend you are intelligent? That may be a stretch... LoL I had to! You set it up perfectly! Ok all joking aside... McCain will not let up until this war is won. Won? What does he mean by won? Well probably that Iraq will become a wonderful democratic nation, just like ours! That will not happen in his lifetime!

Look at our economy! Everything is going up except for wages! More money is being spent on the war than anything else! The dollar has weakened!!! This whole war was a big lie! I will provide links. Oh by the way, you are all concerned about illegal immigration right? Well he is for amnesty. But you vote the way you want to. I will vote my way too! I am not here to convince anyone of anything, just providing the FACTS! Hey if you want your country to go down the drain, then vote McCain! Nice slogan, hugh! ;)

Vote for McCain. There is no legit reason not to.

    If not McCain, vote Clinton.

I've been to all the major candidates' websites and read their positions in detail. You should do the same.

I wont be voting for him but, I think his life is something that should be celebrated. I think he sets an excellent example for young people and that his message is one that needs to be heard.

Now here is what I came up with to not vote for him: his position on Iraq and his position on immigration.

I believe that we accomplished what Bush wanted in Iraq and that the time to leave is long past, leave Iraq to it's own fortunes, let the UN clean up our mess for once. Thats why we pay the UN dues.

And as for immigration, I believe that we need to open the doors and round up every illegal immigrant and make citizens out of them so that we can tax them and so that they can enjoy the benefits of a system that their hard work contributes to.

That's really all I have, though. But both those issues mean a lot to me. I have a big problem with the system of taxation in this country and I have just as big a problem with the way leadership has weilded the military - I feel it's been careless and based on what McCain has said, it seems like he would take a lot of time to undo it.

But, I do believe that McCain will get the job done. He has shown that he is capable of changing his mind and allowing his perspectives to change and grow (and maybe that's another reason why I respect him).

Maybe I actually just changed my own mind when it comes to this November
