On eBay when buying with PayPal, what does the seller mean by 'Seller Preferred'?
I'm looking to bid on something on eBay and I'll be looking to pay by PayPal. Now and again I've seen 'Seller Preferred' tagged onto the PayPal logo and it's attached to this particular auction. Now this may sound like a dumb question but what does that mean, does it mean the seller will only sell to someone who uses PayPal as a business account with eBay?
I don't mean 'PayPal Preferred', I mean 'Seller Preferred'.

It means the seller would prefer that you paid via Paypal - so you'll be OK...

It means the seller prefers people to use PayPal to pay for purchases. It may mean that that auction will only accept PayPal, but usually it means that you can pay by other methods but the seller would like you to pay with PayPal.

They usually mean about the same thing, but someone who say 'PayPal preferred' is more likely to ONLY accept payments through PayPal. Your best bet is to contact the seller directly and ask what forms of payment they would accept. The reason is that eBay now prohibits sellers from SAYING in their listings that they accept checks or money orders even though they are still allowed to DO it. For example, we don't say anything in our listings about taking USPS money orders because we aren't allowed to say it, and even say we only accept payment through PayPal, but if someone contacts us and asks about it, we're allowed to (and often do) accept USPS money orders. In general, you don't have to have a PayPal account to purchase on eBay, but individual sellers can choose to require buyers to have a PayPal account in order to bid on or buy their items. Again, contact the seller - we have sometimes made exceptions about requiring a PayPal account. P.S. You can use a variety of methods to pay through PayPal - credit and debit cards, e-checks, PayPal accounts balances, money cards, etc.. It just means the seller is using PayPal as a service to accept credit and debit card payments for him rather than having his own merchant account.

It gets added to every auction that accepts Paypal as a payment option. The seller may *not* prefer it, but as Ebay own Paypal, they don't get a lot of choice...

Means the seller prefers you to use PP!!! Its a lot easier as a seller - fast payment means you can get stuff out fast too - no hanging on to stuff waiting for cheques etc. And you always have a record of transactions too - they stay in PP. And you can set up automatic emails thanking for payments etc etc.
