McCain against his fellow soldiers?
I read that John McCain, who has authorized major cuts in the GI Bill, did so, so that current soldiers won't have anything to entice them to leave the military, but rather, will stay in.
Do you think this is fair? Former servicepersons only if possible?

Hell, no, it's not fair. Like Teddy Roosevelt said "A man who is good enough to shed blood for his country is good enough to be given a square deal afterwards."
McCain is a Vietnam vet still in denial about that war, and he wants the US to stay in Iraq and win the war of lies, so he can feel better about not having won in Vietnam.
He's against the bill because he wants people to stay in the military, so the US will have enough troops to continue this war of lies in Iraq.

1. Read the bill.
2. Read the Constitution and find out how spending bills are created and passed into law.
3. Learn the difference between the Army and the Navy. John McCain is a retired Navy Captain. So, he has no "fellow soldiers".
4. Please accomplish steps #1 through #3 above before you go within 50 meters of a voting place this November!

remember when bush vetoed the defense authorization bill a few months ago, and every one was saying it was so the military wouldnt get the pay raise, well it was for other parts of the bill that were jacked up, and once that was fixed he signed it and we got our raise, i havent heard anything about what you are talking about but if so then im sure it is for a good reason, because my gi bill hasnt gone down any, actually i think it just recently went up.

I haven't heard this, but considering some of the other things that I know are fact (cutting Boeing out of a fair bidding process to give AirBus the Air Force contract, for example), it does not surprise me in the least. I will probably still vote for him, though. Better than the alternative.

You heard wrong.
There are three competing NEW GI Bills before Congress and the Senate right now.
None, cut any benefits, they all increase benefits.
McCain supports a middle ground bill, not the Webb(D) GI Bill.

I think you really need to read the entire bill, since our corrupt Politicians seem to tack on anything AND the kitchen sink into any bill they can to "sneak" things through. McCain is not against his fellow soldiers, he just no doubt disagrees with some of the CRAP these Politicians are trying to push through. I agree totally with the first poster.

Serving your country and then being unrewarded for it is a travesty. My father was able to go to school after service in the Marines. Why shouldn't today's soldiers have some incentive after the ultimate sacrifice? He should be truly ashamed since he is such a Hawk and Warmonger.

John McCain didn't authorize major cuts in anything, he's not in charge of anything to have that kind of authority. so your just listening to rumors that have no foundation. he may have voted no on a budget or bill, but he didn't authorize anything by doing so.

He said himself that he opposes the bill because he thinks the bill will lower retention.
