How to seal porous tile floor in new home?

We are about to purchase a newly built home and the builder told us we will need to seal the tile on the kitchen floor and in the shower surround. The tile in the kitchen looks very porous. We are not really good DIY'ers. Should we hire someone to do it, or is it easy? What kind or product will we need, or if we hire someone what is an approximate cost/sq ft. TIA

If memory serves me right, it's very simple. You just need to seal it with a silicone product that should be available in any flooring dept. i.e. Home Depot, Lowes, etc.
