Do you believe that we are the adopted sons and daughters of God the Father?
I'm Catholic and I was at mass today. The pastor was giving a homily and for some reason this statement struck me big time. Regardless of your religion or non-religion he stated that Jesus Christ died on the Cross so that we could become the ADOPTED sons and daughters of God the Father. I just thought that was profound as it gave us all the rights and privileges of His Son. Interesting huh? Too bad all the adoptees don't have all the rights and privileges here on earth.

Yes that is very true - any born again child of God is adopted into God's family and become sons and daughters of the Most High God - making us joint (not above or below but equal) heirs with Jesus to the kingdom of heaven.
***It is also very sad that adoptee's don't have their God given rights and privileges here on earth. It's more than sad it is a disgrace.

It's been a long time since I really studied my Catholic religion....so don't quote me on this. I think this has something to do with the fact that the Catholic church "understands" God as a three-part phenomenon:
1. God the Father
2. the Holy Spirit
3. Jesus Christ (the son)
So, we are all God the Father's children...but we can become the adopted children of Jesus the Son

This shows what God did to redeem guy from sin; by way of growing to be a guy. Jesus is likewise the Son of God, and has made the relationship of guy and God by way of His crucifixion and sealed it along with his resurrection. Jesus is God interior the flesh; some thing no person else can declare. See Philippians 2:6-11. Romans 10:8-10 is how everybody could be born back.

Technically, wouldn't we all be great, great, great... grandkids? If God created Adam and Eve from whom all other people were descended from them wouldn't we be his "biological" family?
Even if you consider that the land of Nod where Cain went after being exiled from Eden and had "other people" - God created them too so we're all related if you take the Bible as total fact.
So how did we get adopted again? Wouldn't Jesus be both his son and great, great, great... grandchild as well? Hmmmm. Going in a direction which will have me stoned!
So many weird ways to twist the Bible around! I hate it when religion and adoption get all mixed up.
Here are two blogs which give a different interpretation of adoption and the Bible:

There are other articles which discuss this as well.
The Bible is like statistics -you can find a way to support your point of view no matter what your stance. You just have to look hard enough...

never thought of it like that. I will definately ponder the subject. I like to scope out the reasoning behind religious statements. It can be enlightening sometimes.

My belief is that we are co-creators with God. One & the same. People look up to God as if he were all perfect. If we compared our relationship with God as our relationship with our parents we would not want to see our parents as all perfect & superiour to us. We are a part of our parents just as much as we are a part of God. We are as perfect & imperfect as He.We do not give ourselves credit for what we are truly capable of. We are limiting ourselves to our phyical capabilities rather then our spirtiual. If he created us we are truly a PART of him not LESS then him.

This was always how I was raised... My Uncle had been raised in an orphanage and became a Minister... foster parent and adoptive fathers...
His leadership in our family made it clear we were the Adopted Sons and Daughters of God the father and he was a Southern Baptist Preacher...

If we were all the adopted sons and daughters of God, then we are being pretty incensutous.

If that is the case, then why all the pomp and circumstance surrounding those who can and cannot receive communion?
I realize that policy goes much higher than your pastor and I think that was an EXCELLENT point he made and hope that everybody in your congregation takes that to heart. It sounds like you have a really good role model in your church.
