I looked at the whole text of Jeremiah 23 and it is very powerful to say the least.

In summary the true word of God is powerful becomes it comes from God. Man can claim they have the word, but they are false shepherds using the word to get gain for themselves and even fame.

But the word that comes from God is the truth and holy because it is God himself speaking these. They are the very nature of God in the events that are spoken by the humble prophet or person of God. They are the only words that are strong enough to break the power of lies and deception and falsehood. But the ones who are affected by it are the ones who seek for truth and are really repentant before the Lord. They want to hear God's true word and not man's.

God is strong to deliver his people from deception and falsehood and lies of man whose source is from the devil.

For you to fully understand the meaning of the verse and what I'm about to say you would need a little bit of foundation. Actually, probably a good amount but this is what it means. You will read that Christ is our Rock and it is unmovable. Every time it refers to our Rock in the bible the "R" is capital. Satan's rock is always lower case. You will find this written all over the bible, but you'll probably find most of your information in Deuteronomy chapter 32, which is the song of moses. You would be wise to read the whole thing, but the verses specificly mentioning our and their rock are as follows 32:4, 13, 15, 18, 30, 31, and 37.

As far as the fire you'll learn that God is a consuming fire that destroys his enemys. Deuteronomy 4:24 and 9:3 and Hebrews 12:28-29(also mentioning the unmovable Rock)

There are many more places these things are mentioned and explained, but I think that gets it said well enough.

"For the word of God is quick and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword," Heb 4:12. This admitted, the text would read, "Is not my word powerful, like fire?" or, "Is not the power of my word like fire?" But however we understand the words, let us take heed lest we think, as some have thought and affirmed, that the sacred writings are quite sufficient of themselves to enlighten, convince, and convert the soul, and that there is no need of the Holy Spirit. Fire itself must be applied by an agent in order to produce its effects; and surely the hammer cannot break the rock in pieces, unless wielded by an able workman. And it is God's Spirit alone that can thus apply it; for we find it frequently read and frequently spoken, without producing any salutary effects. And by this very thing the true preachers of the word of God may be distinguished from the false, non-commissioned ones; those who run, though they are not sent, Jer 23:21. The word of him who has his commission from heaven shall be as a fire and as a hammer; sinners shall be convinced and converted to God by it.

God’s Word is the spirit’s “sword”, revealing what a person really is, exposing hidden qualities or heart attitudes and causing him either to soften his heart and conform to God’s will expressed by that Word or to harden his heart in rebellion. God’s Word therefore plays a forceful part in predicting adverse judgment, and since God’s word or message must be carried out, the fulfillment of that word produces an action like that of fire on straw and like that of a forge hammer in smashing the crag.

The Word of God predicts with clarity the judgement of the bad people that, being that this has to be fulfilled, the realization of this judgement is like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces.

This is one of my favorite scriptures in the word of God.

Showing the power of God and His salvation. How His word is indeed like fire! It SHINES forth, and brings what is wicked into light, yet with power and gives us a reverant fear of Him.

Powerful that it can break the rock into pieces....He can soften hearts whose hearts are hard. I am sure there is so much meaning to this verse....as I have yet to deeply study it but everytime I come across it I just stand in complete AWE of Him- such a powerful verse and reminds me of the wonderful mightiness of God!

Jerimiah23:29-32, "Is not my word like fire,” declares the LORD, “and like a hammer that breaks a rock in pieces?

“THEREFORE,” declares the LORD, “I am against the prophets who steal from one another words supposedly from me. Yes,” declares the LORD, “I am against the prophets who wag their own tongues and yet declare, ‘The LORD declares.’ Indeed, I am against those who prophesy false dreams,” declares the LORD. “They tell them and lead my people astray with their reckless lies, yet I did not send or appoint them. They do not benefit these people in the least,” declares the LORD.
