Engagment pictures and Wedding pictures?

Which ones did you take or did you take both? We are going to be on a very strict budget so I'm wondering if we can get away with only doing wedding pictures. Thanks for your input!

Update:

Thanks everyone so far for their answers. We have been engaged for a year but now that I've actually been on the phone and getting the balls in motion to set a date this is something that popped into my head.

You can always skip the engagement pics. Something else to consider, if you have a friend or family member who is pretty good at taking pics, go to a pretty park or waterfall or something like that and have them take your pictures on a digital camera. If you or someone you know is good with stuff like that, you can change things in the pictures (like take out shadows, red-eye, etc.), and just print them off at CVS or Walgreens or somewhere like that. Another option, check into going to JCPenny or Sears, they often have specials in the paper or coupons. We got ours at JCPenny, and we got a free sitting, plus they did like 8 poses (you can buy more if you want), and each portrait sheet was 5 bucks. Check into it, you don't have to spend a lot of money on the engagement pics.

If you can try to find a photographer that INCLUDES engagement photos in their wedding package. If not, have a friend with a decent camera snap some shots of you guys for the local newspaper announcing the engagement. They aren't really needed only if youw ant them.

My husband and I didn't get them we just took a picture of us for the paper and spent the money where it counts on the wedding photos.

  • I don't want to offend anyone, but engagement photos are a very American idea. In the UK it's VERY rare to get them done, and if they are done, it's normally only with the wealthier couples - and I mean wealthy, like those willing to pay £1000 ($2000) for a tiny little mention in the 'Daily Mail' or something.

Of course it's a huge drain on your funds if you have a small budget, so I certainly don't think there's any point in getting them done if you'd prefer to spend the money on the wedding itself, and I don't think anyone would judge you for that.

Obviously therefore, we haven't had engagement photos done, and never intended to. If I'd wanted to have them done, I could have got them for free, because I studied photography, so could have asked a number of college friends to do them, but it's just not done in the UK, so didn't even consider it. It's only when I looked at American couples' wedding websites that I realised this sort of thing even existed!

We did both but the main reason for the engagement pics was to check out the photographer to see if we liked her and really wanted her to do our wedding as well. She even ended up cutting us a break because she did our engagement pics.

I thought several times of taking my good digital camera and asking my fiance's friend to help us out by meeting us somewhere to take some pics of us that would then be used as our engagement photo. So long as you or a friend has a digital camera, you can get someone to take photos to be used as your engagement pics.

Do wedding pictures. Engagement pictures are just another way for photographers to make extra money. If you or a friend have a nice camera go to a park and take pictures yourself.Of course have someone else shoot them. You would have some nice engagement picture that way.

We got pictures done about a year after we got engaged, so I guess it's up to you. We didn't specifically say they were engagement pictures either. We got wedding photos done, and the price wasn't as horrible as we'd seen for other types of wedding photography.

you have to take wedding pictures, and don't skimp on them either.. your day will go by so fast that you will need something to remember it by. I didn't get any engagement pics taken.. i think they're just for your save the dates (which i didn't send out) and the newspaper announcement (which I'm not running either).

  • If you cant afford an engagement photo, Dont worry. you can skip that and use the money you would have for the engagement photos, and use it for better Wedding photos.

We didn't bother with engagement photos - just didn't see the point.
