21 weeks pregnant and suffering from back pain.... advice?

I have this back pain and its not lower back. Strangely, its on the sides of my middle back. Pain is on both sides and sometimes i can feel it in ribs. I can associate similar pain when you workout too hard and you get sore muscles. I haven't done anything like this at all. The pain is so discomforting sometimes that I wake up at night. I have called my doctor but is there anyone else who has experienced similar pain? Any suggestions are appreciated.

could it be a gallstone attack?

I don't think it is pregnancy related as in labour or contractions.

I had pain in my upper right area under my ribs people always told me it was baby pushing up but it turned out to be gallstones instead and i had surgery 3 months after baby came into the world.

Okay, you may want to ask your OBGYN to test you for a UTI. Sometimes pregnant women fail to feel the symptoms of a Urinary tract infection. We don't get that "it burns to pee!" feeling. Then the UTI progresses up the ureters and into the kidneys....wich are on both sides of your lower back. This kidney infection is called Pyelonephritis (pile-o-nefrytis). And it SUCKS.

I was 30 wks pregnant with my daughter when I started having back pain. In my lower back below my ribs, on each side of my spine. I figured that when your pregnant, your back aches at times, and that is just part of it. So I took tylenol when it was bad, and just lived with it. It would almost seem like a spasm that would come on. It got worse by the day, and found I had a hard time walking or even standing up straight when the pain was at its worst. I went to a po-dunk hospital in Muskogee Oklahoma (I was out of town) and they said I was dehydrated, filled me with an IV of saline, and sent me on my way. 3 days later, and back at home I was suffering from chills, sweats, and my back hurt so bad I couldn't stand up or walk. I felt dizzy and nauseated. I went to the hospital, and they pulled a urine sample from me with a catheter, and I had raging Pyelonephritis. I was hospitalized for 3 days on antibiotic drip. Baby was born healthy 7 weeks later. :o) So that is good. But all that came about b/c I had no idea I had a UTI to begin with b/c there were NO symptoms.

Seriously ask if they can do a urine dip and test for UTI. Pyelonephritis becomes prevalant in summer months, and believe me, you don't want it.

It may just be your body shifting. Your body is going through major changes and everything is getting alittle squished!

I experience chest pain and when I breath deep I can feel my ribs are a little sore.

Good Luck your half way there!

hun my advice for u is..go to ur doc and get ur urine checked. it could b kidney infection- the pains ur sayin is very similar to kidney/bladder infection- sometimes even if ur not having any burning during urination dosnt mean u dosnt have an infection there- so go to ur doc get ur urine checked. its fast, then if it is an infection he will prescribe u a 10days antibiotic to take, but if its not...just take it easy, dont do much, put ur legs elavated when laying down , trying massaging or heating pad.

    hope u feel better soon.

I was told I could use a heating pad on my BACK, not belly, but I chose not 2, try just taking a relaxing bath.

Otherwise it's normal 2 have a back ache.

during the day i would say just take tylenol when it gets really bad, take a nice warm bath, and if u didnt know theres massage therapist who specialize in pregnant women u should give it a try, at night warm bath and try one of those maternity pillows that support ur back and belly. heres a link to one at wal mart.. hope this helped and good luck

it could just be gas. sometimes you feel it in your back. BUT, not to scare you, but i had the same type of pain when i had a kidney infection and when i kidney stones. it was very uncomfortable and no position made it feel better. it was a constant pain. please check with your doctor!!! good luck!

  • In Baby's R Us they have belts or braces made just for us

I hear they are a major relief.

Try a heating pad, be sure not to place it on your abdomen though.
