How can anybody believe the 'Noah's flood' story when all evidence says it never happened?
It's pretty much common knowledge now that there has never been such a flood, and that the story was based on the much older Epic of Gilgamesh, but some people still hang on to it. Why?
Michelle Zalbo: Take a geology class. I have.
george: That is a lie. There are several Veda's and the Code of Hammurabi among others that are much older.
If it had happened, there would be one undeniable piece of evidence; a single silt layer from that time. There is none. It didn't happen. Local flooding has happened throughout the world for as long as humans have been around to witness it, but the Biblical story is a myth.
Vhaerun: Ready for a shock? It IS a metaphor. I agree on that. Physically it never happened as religion claims it did. That has nothing to do with the purpose of the story. Have a nice day.

People hang on because they believe the bible. Substitute any biblical reference in your question and it holds true.
No...evidence.
msmanner: you challenge others' ideals and beliefs every time you fight to have CHRISTIAN religion back in schools. The questioner has a right to demand evidence.

Actuallly a flood story appears in the mythology of many ancient religions (including early Judaism). I believe there is archeological evidence that the world was waterlogged at one point. But this does not mean that the story of Noah's ark is "historical." (It has been proven that both the Old and New Testament is not historical or, at best, reports historical events in a legendary way and out of the chronology in which they occurred. ) It suggests that recollection of a flood exists in the archetypal consciousess of human beings and was recorded in their early mythology.
As you know, some people hold onto the idea that the story of Noah as well as other Biblical stories are actual historical facts because they take a fundamentalist and literal (but of historically or culturally out-of-context) view of the Bible. I don't care, as long as they don't get into my face about it.

There WAS prooof of a flood in 5,000BC. Scientists were wondering why the agriculture of the time was at 10,000+ feet and found that due to a cataclismic astrological event the oceans were creating waves up to the 10,000 foot level.
Since then there seems to be evidence recently found that shows the Arc was found on top of a rather tall mountain around the 10,000 ft level.

Actually, though it may not have happened how the Bible tells it, there was some sort of massive flood in pre-history. It's been proven both through archeology and cultural stories.
Many cultures have a story about this huge flood, and each handles it differently. The Bible, of course, has Noah; and the Epic of Gilgamesh, as you mentioned, is another.
That's just the way religion is--a way for people to explain the unexplained. What bothers me is how much you seem to be upset by the fact that people have religious beliefs. That's just the way it goes.

Actually mate, there is evidence of it. They've found the place that the ark settled, and a good number of geologists believe that the way certain pieces of land have formed with with certain types of rocks in certain places and how they are laid out may have happened as a result of noah's flood. Besides why shouldn't we believe in the bible stories? They might not be historically accurate with dates and a full scientific report on each event, but they do have some very valuable lessons. You could look at the story of Noah as a lesson in going against caving in to peer pressure.

There was a REAL flood, its called the flooding of the Persian Gulf after the most recent ice age. All the flood stories were likely based on that one local flooding (which took place in multiple stages).

concerning to the remark about Mt. Everest: contained in the literal know-how of the Biblical foodstuff have you ever seen that the topography develop into significantly diverse? also that's uncomplicated to underestimate how a lot water may were saved below the Earth's crust and what result it can have had because it broke out and flooded the Earth. such issues as Pangaea and the Grand Canyon mean something large got here about interior the idea of youthful Earth creationism and a literal know-how of the flood. contained in the recent testomony we see references to the flood which take it to be quite actually. The authors of such scriptures were raised and surrounded by technique of Jewish idea in idea. Matthew 24:38-39 38 " "For as contained in the days earlier the flood, they were eating and ingesting, marrying and giving in marriage, until eventually the day that Noah entered the ark, 39 "and did not know until eventually the flood got here and took all of them away, so will also the arriving of the Son of guy be." it has been proven that it is true they found the ark a couple of years ago....... well in the erly 90s they found a weird shaped figuer almost seemed like a boat like noahs boat. The goverment tryed to cover it up but not too many years ago they actually wen to check it out and theres proof of it even pictures look it up it was found in mount Arat in turkey. That mountain was also mentioned in the bible, also in surtain areas in the middle east they found marine life that is fosilized on top of the mountains high mountains in which it is impossible for these creatures to apear there and also rocks in wich there is evidence that there was one water there how can u explain that? and your are probably thinking of the story where they tell you that the whole world was under water! thats is false in those days remember they thought the world could of been flat well to them most of the world or the whole world was they land they explored so only a surtain area in the middle east was under water if you havent thought about it the ark didnt reall travel half way across the world but in the same area. Its all about faith and something to beleive but check it out and look it up maybe they can give you better explenations google lolz

...Well, I would do some more research.
...1. the Bible teaches it
...2. many cultures have a story of some kind of deluge.
...3. Q. If a flood did occur as the Bible declares, what would we find (like on the ocean floor)?
......A. Billions of dead things, buried in rock layers, laid down by water, all over the earth.
**
...If'n I were you I would do some rechecking, and look at many sources - since you said "all the evidence says it never happened", you obviously has missed a few.
...Try reading the Genesis Flood, by Dr. Henry Morris.

What are you talking about. The evidence is everywhere. If you read Genesis it states that at one time the whole earth was surround by water above the firmament which woukd have a green house effect on the planet. Scientistst are digging up tropical plant life and unusual animals in the artic frequently. Also water broke up under the land masses which caused them to separate. If you look at a map of the world you can see how the land masses used to be connected (ie Africa and South America. Do your homework dude.

actually if you had done some research you would have known that there have been many eyewitness reports have confermed its appearence on mount ararat... Even if there was no evidence of the flood it would be no surprise, especially since probably some of the best evidence was probably distroyed after many years. Even if the ark hasent been found, many christians simply have faith- which is something that many people could never understand
