How do you replace a socket in a ceiling fan. We took off the globe and noticed that someone tried to unscrew?
the socket and now the inside is mangled and the outside cover is chipped and falling apart. How would I take that whole piece off and replace it? Thank you!

Well, all things are repairable, if they can be taken apart. I would take it apart in one piece as much as you can and then take it to a lighting store. They usually have the parts needed to do repairs. Also, most of these general lighting repair parts can be found at Home Depot, Lowes and the like. Usually, they have employees that can help you get the parts you need but if you don't know how to do the Remove and Replace you are not going to get far. Sometimes it's best just to replace the whole fan and all. I actually enjoy doing these things but some people are afraid of electrical and I do understand. Seek out a handyman in your area who does odd jobs. This will not be a difficult job for a seasoned handyman.
If you decide to take it apart yourself be sure to shut off the power to the Fan/Light at the breaker box. It will be safe to work on if you do that first.

This is called a light kit and sounds like you have only one bulb.
1) turn off the power at your electric panel.
2) try running the fan.
3) the fixture is attached to the fan housing using a metal cover with 3 screws (usually Phillips head) [cross point].
4) when you remove this cover you will see the 2 wires going to the light (black and white)
5) the newer ones are connected using a plastic plug.
6) disconnect this, remove the light kit and get a replacement.
7) take the old kit with you, however most all light kits for fans are all the same size (don't lose those 3 screws).
8) most home centers have a variety of light kits for fans.
Good Luck ! ! !
